1. Kenji Nagai died to bring the world the truth
Edited on Fri Sep-28-07 09:02 AM by yellerpup
about the ruling party in Myanmar (Burma). No greater sacrifice can be made. His name will live forever and the world will be a darker place without him. Kenji Nagai, rest in peace, my friend.

Edited for typo/Freudian slip. I typed that his name would 'love' forever.

2. Heads up American media

That's what you call a journalist! Notice the lack of Brangelina, Paris Hilton, some pretty blonde girl missing, or other sensationalist bullshit.

Kenji San, I salute you!

5. don't watch it, I am sorry I did..it will haunt me forever...
The poor man tied to get up after he was shot, but obviously he was unable to as his lower body was not responding. It was horrible, I feel sorry for his family having to see his last moments on earth.

16. according to the Committee to Protect Journalists, 35 this year
Source: http://www.cpj.org/killed/killed07.html

And here's a breakdown of journalists killed since 1992 (636 total): http://www.cpj.org/killed/killed_archives/stats.html. About 73 percent were murdered ... and suspected perpetrators were 29 percent political groups, a little more than 19 percent government officials.

11. Chile 1973
This reminds me of the case of Leonard Hendrickson who filmed his own death during the "Tacnazo" of 1973. He points the camera into the barrel of a chilean soldier's gun and we watch as he dies. The film is "Batalla de Chile." And I always remember that, as I will always remember this. Rest in peace brave Nagai-san... Shi-sho... You are our protector, and I thank you for paying the ultimate sacrifice for knowledge.

14. RIP, brother
You died doing what you loved and fought for ... getting the truth out.

Here's the Committee to Protect Journalists report: http://www.cpj.org/news/2007/asia/burma28sep07na.html

The Japanese embassy in Burma said the bullet entered Nagai’s body from the lower right side of his chest, pierced his heart, and exited from his back. Their statement contradicts Burmese authorities’ claims that Nagai was killed by a stray bullet. Nagai, dressed in shorts and sandals, was clearly a foreigner and a journalist, who was carrying a video camera at the time he was shot.

“The government’s use of violence to suppress political dissent has now taken the life of a journalist,” said Joel Simon CPJ’s executive director. “The apparently cold-blooded killing of Kenji Nagai by Burmese government troops cannot go unaddressed. We call on the government to ensure the safety of all journalists covering this unrest.”

Nagai, 50, who was working for APF News, a video and photo agency based in Tokyo, was one of at least nine people killed by government troops during anti-government demonstrations yesterday, according to official state-run television. Another 11 demonstrators and 31 security force members were injured, the broadcast said.
