Tennessee General Assembly video from the May 20, 2011 Senate Session of the thirty-eighth organizational day documenting the newly selected TNGA Senate Speaker Pro Tempore Foy "Bo" Watson leading the Tennessee Senate in a sectarian prayer. Lt. Governor Ron Ramsey indistinctly addresses Watson as "Minister of the Day".

TNGA Senator Bo Watson will take over the reigns of "Speaker Pro Tem" in the Senate July 1, 2011 from the departing Senator Jamie Woodson.

The "Speaker Pro Tem" chairs the Senate during sessions in chamber when the Lt. Governor is away from the Tennessee state capitol.

Watson joins other Hamilton County residents, like Deputy Governor Claude Ramsey and House Majority Leader Gerald McCormick, in positions of influence in the state of Tennessee.

This video is part of a planned Sectarian Prayer Within the Church of the Tennessee Senate video series.

Matthew 6:5-8 King James Version (KJV)
5And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

7But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

8Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

1. Tennessee Constitution/Contradiction
Article IX seems to contradict articles I and II.

Article I, Section 3. That all men have a natural and indefeasible right to worship Almighty God according to the dictates of their own conscience; that no man can of right be compelled to attend, erect, or support any place of worship, or to maintain any minister against his consent; that no human authority can, in any case whatever, control or interfere with the rights of conscience; and that no preference shall ever be given, by law, to any religious establishment or mode of worship.

Article I, Section 4. That no political or religious test, other than an oath to support the Constitution of the United States and of this state, shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under this state.

Article IX, Section 2. No person who denies the being of God, or a future state of rewards and punishments, shall hold any office in the civil department of this state.

The last section is unenforceable due to the U.S. Constitution (look closer the Tennessee Constitution and you might find sections prohibiting ministers from serving within the Tennessee General Assembly as well)...

4. Huh?
Article IX, Section 2. No person who denies the being of God, or a future state of rewards and punishments, shall hold any office in the civil department of this state.

Are they referring to the repigs who become lobbyists for billionaires after they leave office?
