Funny how a story like this doesn't make it to the American news.
They did a segment on the water situation in Iraq on BBC World News a few days ago, where they discussed the problem of the lack of clean drinking water as there are not enough sewage treatment or desalinization plants in Iraq to meet the need. People can't bathe in what comes out of their taps, creating a serious heath problem, compounded by too few functioning hospitals already overwhelmed by the day-to-day violence.
Four and a half years with minimal electricity and polluted drinking water in the middle of the desert? Gee, I can't imagine why they're shooting at us. :sarcasm:

5. Can you imagine the whining if Americans lived with those conditions? |
|
It would drown out all the noise in the universe.

2. The cases of cholera are showing up |
|
In Baghdad and in the south, too.
It is genocide. There is nothing else to call it. Look at the numbers.
~100,000 during the first Gulf War. 2,000,000 during the decade of sanctions, including 500,000 confirmed deaths of children 1,200,000 deaths during the invasion and occupation, 2.5 million externally displaced and approximately 4.5 million internally displaced.
This doesn't count the birth defects and childhood cancers from DU munitions (it's nuclear war, folks. Don't slice and dice.)
Genocide is a nasty word, but it is what is happening on the ground.

6. I hope he is. He's a good man and was my Congressman for years. I applaud |
|
him for bringing attention to it and hopefully he IS getting together some type of action. Has Kucinich addressed this? I think he would be an excellent co-sponsor on an issue of this type.
