When asked if he would impose a 55mph speed limit in order to conserve gas, Biden said he would rather implement new requirements of all US Gov fleet vehicles and Green Building for all new federal construction.

1. 55 sucks. It's just TOO SLOW. |
|
Especially for people who have LONG hauls to make.
I'm all for finding ways to conserve, but slowing traffic down ain't one of 'em. I didn't like it the last time they did it, either.

4. It's this kind of selfish attitude that's killing America |
|
Only immature idiots don't have the self-control to slow down a lousy TEN miles per hour. It's not like you're being asked to drive 45 mph on a freeway. :eyes:
Our cars are being made ever more flimsy to reduce fuel consumption, while speed limits have been raised. End result? Injuries and fatalities on the rise. "Speed kills" isn't just a slogan, it's the truth. People shouldn't have to die because others are too selfish and immature to drive at a reasonable speed.
By simply slowing down, we'd reduce our dependence on foreign oil to some degree RIGHT NOW, and cars wouldn't have to be reduced to motorized roller skates in order to save fuel.
55 mph worked before, and it'd work again. The problem is, people have to quit being selfish and shortsighted, and actually do something that will help others. Buying a few fluorescent light bulbs doesn't make you "green". Living green is a way of life, and it involves some self-discipline. Driving 85 mph on the interstate is not only bad for the ozone layer, it's also highly dangerous to those around you.

5. I think that a better approach would be to raise taxes on gas |
|
and mandate better fuel efficiency. This isn't only an issue of how fast people drive, but also how often and what kind of distance.

7. He gave excellent reasons why he wouldn't focus on this approach. It's not |
|
that he's in disagreement about the positive effects, just that he would focus on other ways to bring us into a better ecological alignment. Starting with the Fed Gov.
