Fox Host: "All right, joining me now is former congressman Alan Grayson, who is one of the more colorful and controversial Democrat members of the House. Congressman, you recently said there are 5 things needed to be quote 'middle class'. Number one, having a job. Number two, owning a home. Number three, owning a car. Number four, having affordable health care, and number five, a pension. Congressman, where's the pony? Wait a minute, wait a minute, I want a baseball team! Can I have a baseball team, Congressman?"

Alan Grayson: "Sorry, do you have a question here?"
(laughter)

Fox Host: "Yeah, the question is, who, whose gonna pay for the house, the car, the pension, the health care, if every American is supposed to have one? Where is the money coming from?"

Alan Grayson: "No, I think you misunderstand my point. My point is that people in America, three quarters of us, enjoy a middle class lifestyle, at least for now. And they have those 5 things. A quarter of us don't. And more and more, people are falling out of the middle class and into the lower class in this country, that is the point I was making. I think it's a fact. It's not something to say, it's not even something you can argue about, about a quarter of the country has a net worth of about a thousand dollars."

.............

Alan Grayson: "Well, I think we've seen an attack on these programs from the right, the right wants to eliminate medicare, eliminate medicaid, eliminate social security, and also not help people who are out of a job, not help people who are losing their homes or in danger of losing their homes, not help people who are in danger of falling out of the middle class. There is one party that wants to help and there is another party that doesn't care."

Fox Host: "Who is gonna pay for it, sir?

Alan Grayson: "What do you mean by that?"

Fox Host: "I would like to sit at home all day in my backyard and play with my kid, in fact, maybe he shouldn't have to go to school, maybe the government can help him out too, he doesn't even have to go to school cause it won't matter cause he won't need a job, if, under your plan, everyone is gonna get some help from the government every time things go south."

....................

Fox Host: "That's socialism, right there! That's, Marxism in fact!"

BTW having that douche nozzle explain how business and capitalism works to Alan Grayson is
way over the top because Grayson has made millions setting up and running his own company.

BTW part 2 ..... What part of a list did Mr. Bolling not get?

BTW part 3 .... that piece of crap couldn't even say the name proper name but instead used the
Frank Luntz "Democrat Party," term.

101. Frank (bad toupe) Luntz
is not the source of "Democrat Party." Joseph McCarthy is tho one who started it.
It's grammatically incorrect. Democrat is a noun as is party. Nouns don't modify other nouns, adjectives do.
The alcoholic closet queen McCarthy was ceded too much power because Democrats wouldn't stand up to him.

I have heard Luntz pushing "the democrat party" meme all the time ... John Boner did it
to Nancy Pelosi's face when she became Speaker of the House ..... I wish Obama would
wise up and quit trying to play nice w/ the people who want to destroy him and the party.

108. He doesn't understand "middle class."
Apparently, he thinks the rise of the middle class occurred in this country because the GOVERNMENT paid them into that class? Rather than that they worked their own way into that class, or were born into it and worked to stay there. It was by the sweat(s) of their own brows, pulling themselves up by their much-vaunted bootstraps. Which is what Republicans claim to cherish and value.

What a moron.

"businessman".

The businessman objected to the Dem referring to him as a "used car salesman".

Bottom line is, he did sell used cars ... oh, I guess the politically-correct term is "certified pre-owned" ... but it was still telling the truth ... he sold used cars ...

13. Number one: having a job
That's why it's number one. Number one pays for the house, retirement, healthcare. Where are the jobs? Are republicans doing anything to generate jobs? No. They want us to believe that eliminating jobs, rewarding those that outsource jobs, privatizing jobs and busting up unions so that those lucky enough to have jobs will have lower pay and fewer benefits can't afford numbers two through five is the way to heal the economy. How does that make any sense?

59. In 2010, practically all of the GOP ran on the
"creating jobs" platform.

Since their victory, I have yet to see one job creating bill from them.

Of course, the Democrats are NOT capitalizing on this (either). IMO, "we" should be driving that (a long with a long list of broken promises) home.

Until "WE" change the "politics as usual" (corporate owned politicians), none of it really matters.

...and say having a GOOD job. I knew people when I lived in the States who had 2 or 3 jobs and were still struggling to make ends meet. Ron Burgundy there says that 91% of people have a job. I wonder what the figure is for people who have a job that pays enough to take care of their basic needs.

caliber of Grayson. Most all the folks I know and deal with would vote for Grayson or Bernie Sanders or any combination thereof.

A successful primary campaign (meaning a very high and surprising showing), at the very minimum, would tell "0" he is playing with fire when he inevitably and inevitably slip slides to the right and behind the curtain, sells the people of this country down the river to appease the rich.

And also a primary candidate of that caliber might just gain the momentum to actually win.

It seems clear the right wing's plan for the average American's retirement is to give (I meant loan) them a shovel, tell them to dig a hole . . . and then lie down in it.

18. This was so telling, besides being interesting, with Grayson cool
and the interviewer stewing in his own juices because he couldn't manipulate/whip Grayson into taking his bait.

The interviewer was purposely confusing and twisting Grayson's responses. He also tried to paint all middle class people as feeling "entitled" to the 5 needed things, hence the absurd and out-of-place "Where's the pony?" remark. No real middle-class persons would even have that in their heads, except maybe children. And middle class child's wish list would not usually request a job, house, car, health care, or a pension. However, an upper-crust teenager/adult might be fantasizing about owning a baseball team (think George W. Bush).

Lots of weird projection, mischaracterization and just off-the-wall questions from that despicable interviewer.

On the other hand, Grayson was pure GOLD.

He has been included in Trader Monthly Top 100 in 2005 and 2006. Bolling was the recipient of the Maybach Man of the Year Award at the Trader Monthly Awards, January 17, 2007.<3>

27. The Fox "News" idiot had a point to make, but he made it in the wrong argument.
We get it. These fuck-ups on Fox think government programs that benefit the poor and indigent are a bad thing because they (WRONGFULLY) believe others pay for them. But these programs were *clearly* not what Alan Grayson was talking about.

That jackass saw nothing but "Democrat" and was so prepared with his right-wing, bullshit talking points that he didn't even see the actual gist of the conversation that he himself brought up. It's so sad to know that people watch Fox shows like this. They can't help but become more stupid afterwards. It was a clear demonstration of a lack of intelligence. Whoever this Fox idiot is, he demonstrated a poor ability to understand basic points of fact, namely, Grayson's definition of the meaning of "middle class" in America. Instead the numskull's shallow mind associates "Democrat" to this list and concludes "they want government to pay for all these things." And then he tries to act all smug and superior to Grayson. It's like these republicans are trained to act that way no matter what is said to them.

Nice to see that Alan refused to get sucked into that idiot trap. This particular Fox idiot host was clearly disappointed.

He asks who's going to pay for it all - uh, the person who has the decent, middle-class-lifestyle-providing job. Duh. No one is asking the government to pay us all to sit around and do nothing. What an idiot.

Of course, it is just one of their ways to deflect and obfuscate the point. I hate these people.

I don't understand why americans wil put up with this type of nonsence really.. In Europe we would have teared down this guy by hand if nessesary.. But in US they get their own shows to spew their hate for everyone else than themselfs.. And get paid a lot in the prosess too..

To mee it looks like the americans need a wakeup call, to understand that for having a "middle class" lifestyle, with a decent job, a house (big or small, dependt on your income) and maybe money to retire when that time came, (or have a public retirement plan as many european nations have) you also need some fair taxes, for everyone.. Even here in Europe we do se that some dosen't pay taxes, even tho they own millions, billions worth of wealt. Becouse they can the loopholes.. If everyone paid their taxes, to what they own, then we might have a whole another tax brakes in most cases anyway..

As long as this stand, americans would never have it better I fear.. the ordinary peopole of US have to stand up, and tell the powers that enough is enough.. Of course by legal means.. But I am also afraid it wil take time for americans, to undestand that they have to stand up, for their rigts.. Becouse it is a posibility they might loose it all, if they are not fighting back soon..
The extreme right have never been specially found of the programs going back to FDR.. And now they are in the prosess of rulling it all back, to the time when working class peopole had to work all their life, and die in "poor houses" when they was not able to work - and dosen't had familily to support them when they was not able to work anymore..

I understand your point and sometimes I wish I could move away from the U.S. The problem I have, like many other Americans, is that I must support my family and I barely get by. I don't have time to go out and protest; I am too much in debt. I have found that when people do go out and protest, it does little, as no one listens. We have huge protests here and the TV cameras do not cover it. The only thing that protesting does is take time away from my job and makes it harder for me to support my family.

You say we have to stand up and say enough is enough by legal means. We have. it makes no difference. We voted for Obama. turns out he is as much a corporatist as much as Bush was. If we lay in the streets, we get arrested for impeding traffic. If we protest in stores we get arrested for trespassing. If we send letters to congress we are ignored. If we vote Democrat, we get screwed, and if we vote Republican we get screwed even harder.

And the ultimate sad truth is that it doesn't matter who we vote for, because they don't count the votes any way.

96. EXTREMELY WEAK!
I don't understand all the recommends for this video, nor how this was proclaimed a "total meltdown".

What this was was a total missed opportunity.

When the host asks, "Who is going to pay for these things?", all Grayson could repeat was, "I don't know what you're talking about."

We know exactly what he's talking about, and we should not be afraid to say it very plainly.

These are the 5 supposed things that are needed to "be middle class"

1) A job
2) Own a home
3) Own a car
4) Have affordable health care
5) Have a pension

Who pays for these things? It's an easy answer and deserving of more than a puzzled dodge from Grayson:

Jobs are paid for by corporations, who should be incentivized to create jobs in the United States and penalized when they move them overseas.
Homes are paid for by people earning decent wages appropriate to skilled laborers.
Cars are paid for by people earning decent wages appropriate to skilled laborers.
Health care should be paid for through taxation.
Pensions should be paid for by people earning decent wages appropriate to skilled laborers and supplemented through taxation.

The problem here is that Grayson, like any politician, is afraid to talk about tax revenue being spent to the benefit of Americans, because people like this talk show host immediately scream "Socialism!"

Why be afraid of the damn "socialism" bogey man? We should fucking OWN it.

We have socialized schools, socialized roads, socialized libraries, socialized courts, socialized public attorneys, socialized police services, socialized fire services, and a socialized military. All of these things are things that we have decided make society better off if everyone has access to them, regardless of whether they pay for it or not. The simple question is, is health care and pensions going to be one of those things also?

And finally!

I am so tired of hearing "Well, 50% of the workers don't pay any taxes already!"

Yeah, well guess what? 2% of the population has 90% OF THE FUCKING MONEY! When some percentage of the population has no money, how the fuck are you going to tax them AT ALL?

Of COURSE the tax burden is shifting to the top - THEY HAVE ALL THE FUCKING MONEY!

If you want to broaden the tax base, BROADEN THE FUCKING WEALTH BASE.

This was a very weak response by Grayson.

The GOP want tax cuts for corporations in the name of tax cuts.

Tax cuts should be given to corporations who put money back into the economy.... be it through higher wages for their employees, or better health benefits, or not tranferring jobs to India.

That doesn't cost the government or the taxpayers money. It costs the businesses money, and they have plenty of it... especially when you know that there are top corporations that don't pay one dime in income tax.

These were the parents who would build a small stable and paddock , or even provide work with a trainer when dealing with
a more professional young horse talented enough to show. Full disclosure here: my maternal grandfather, while not pursuing this in adult life, grew up on a Canadian ranch working with old fashioned " horsebreakers." He knew how to do the actual horse whisper thing. I saw him do it time and time again with different horses. He explained to me that there was a nerve behind the ear that could control them, at least briefly. He could get a horse to follow him around with a nose against his shoulder. He passed away before sharing the secret he'd promised.
My point here is that the promise of a pony didn't used to be out of financial question, just too much trouble and logistics for many parents. To equate it with wanting to own a baseball team--I guess you'd have to be a Bush.
