A new Gallup poll shows most Americans would prefer to raise a boy if they could only have one child. Ana Kasparian, Richard Eskow and Steve Oh discuss.

2. Ditto
Besides being an only child (girl) myself by choice of my parents in 1948, husband and I had two girls. I cannot tell you how many people said to us, "When are you going to try for a BOY." We decided on two children before we married and that would be it, PERMANENTLY. My husband told these people that he LIKED GIRLS. lol That usually shut them up.

4. Good for your husband and you!
It's funny...I was the one who wanted boys. My husband did NOT care, as long as our offspring were healthy. And they were.

I came to realize that the genetic line is passed just as well by daughters as it is by sons!

:P

3. Once, I asked my brother why so many people feel this need to have a son.
Without missing a beat, he replied dryly, "It's very important to have a child who can pee standing up."

He is very happy with the daughter he got. :)

6. Talk about your anti-survival instinct.

I got bad news for 'em. That road dead ends pretty quick. In fact, I'm kind of sorry I won't be around to see how China and India handle things in about 50 years.

(Edited because I seriously cut my life span short there for a minute!)

7. Nature knew what it was doing...
Statistically, more boys are born but more female survive longer. Boys are ok, but our family likes girls.

And about China; women are in such short supply that they are being kidnapped in parts of rural China and forced to marry and have children. Socitial pressure and preference is foolish. You should be happy with what you have.

9. how is 40%..
"most Americans"?

Sounds to me 60% would not prefer a boy, and would either prefer a girl (28%) or would be equaly happy with either (32%).

Ideally, boy and girl would be equal, or even more egalitarian, everyone would be in that 32% group.

The anchor also played pretty fast a loose, she said 40% and a second later said "almost 50%"

10. I think it totally comes down to economics.
Men still get paid more than women, and when looking at the economic future, boys make more sense. It may even be in our genes. When food is scarce, you tend to want more boys so they can help with the hunt. Just like in more modern times when farmers hoped for sons so there would be more hands to run the farm.

It seems though in times when there is a sense of prosperity, that it doesn't matter which sex your children are, as you will be able to support them more effortlessly.

11. I have one thing to say... "Thank Heaven for little girls"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=neyxTyWaJdI&feature=related

This guy put some photos with Marice Chevalier singing his signature tune.

Really you give little girls ANYTHING!!! and they love you. Boys....not so much.

Oh and BTW. (should you question my intentions) NEVER EVER USE THE WORD "SEXY" to describe a female under 18!!!! I will yell at you and create a public scene.

I have done it before to thoughtless people who have SHOULD have known better.
