It's been 30 years since Colombian soldiers kidnapped, beat, tortured, starved and electro-shocked Hector Aristizabal — but it's a memory he lives with everyday. Aristizabal said the Colombian military held and tortured him for ten days, all for having a "subversive book." "Few people have survived torture in Colombia, so I am very lucky to tell this story. Most people get tortured for ten days, that's the standard, and then they get shot and killed," said Aristizabal. "Many have been disappeared — more than 80,000." Aristizabal says that the Colombian soldiers who tortured him and later killed his brother were trained right here on American soil, at the School of the Americas in Fort Benning, Georgia.

but you never hear a peep about it from the M$M or

any elected member of government....There is outcry

about goings on at Gitmo, but the

School of Americas "program" has been

going on for far longer.

2. Have you read the Shock Doctrine ?

It just stuns me the double standards on Democratic Underground - people are just so unwilling to confront the reality of what America is - it is simply to jarring for them to be able to accept that it is in fact America who is the purveyor of evil on this planet and not the commies.


Read Shock Doctrine, or Chomsky, or Pilger, or any of several dozen others i can name. Makes me sick.

3. Would like to add that this is not only continuing

but has expanded across the world from South America, is now significantly worse but is now actually accepted and defended. The reality is that this stuff is in the Main Stream Media all the time, this is what renditions, secret prisons, assassinations, Guantanamo are all about - its just that people have a disconnection, they are unable to put these things together and actually realize what it is.


Its like the CIA and secret services - their remit is specifically regime change and regime control.

I have no idea what the general population actually things the CIA does ? Collect paper clips ? I mean what do people think they do beyond this ?

Its just a stunning total disconnection with reality. The green revolution in Iran was a 100% cia run operation - yet people really, really, believe it was the Iranian people crying out to Americans for help - blows my mind how much in denial Americans are.

Obama has authorized state assassinations against Americans. Hit squads. Just imagine for one second that China was going around assassinating their citizens abroad (which they maybe) but imagine your visceral reaction. Remember your visceral reaction to the Russian assassination of Victor Litivenko ? There was a natural visceral hatred of the Russian state for their callous disregard of civil society - well thats exactly where America is and what America does - worse - America is the main purveyor of this evil crap on a global, industrial scale.

5. I am appalled at this as an American and a Georgian
