1. This has been an issue for me for a very long time. |
|
But how to implement it, that is the question. Coors, with right wing fascist ownership, Home Depot's owner is a notable supporter of right wing conservative issues and organizations. Both easy to stay away from. The Koch Brothers own lycra. Take off all the Lycra and don't buy anymore... A little more difficult isn't it? Actually, the Koch Brothers are really bad and there have been lists published regarding their trademarks and products. It would be cool to get a movement going to make the point that we don't like their influence over our public political discourse. Oh yes, News Corp; The Simpsons for Gods sake, American Idol... Anything Fox or is it Faux? Any Fox affiliate TV station in your town. All fair game as far as I am concerned. Here where I live they have the most popular evening news anchor. He has been at it for years, I don't watch much TV, but I try and pay attention about the source of the influence... I could go on, but we all have our own favorites.

TV is different. You don't have to not watch. |

I patronize local businesses first, American manufactures. But there are some businesses I never patronize. Dominoes comes to mind, among others.

3. I would be glad to boycott right wing businesses, if I knew |
|
who they were. However, I question whether the boycotting approach is even effective because you have to get massive cooperation. There are also certain instances when it's highly inconvenient and/or more expensive. Example. We have Verizon, which supports Republicans (at least judging by he unsolicited political messages my husband gets on his work issued Blackberry, which really irritates me). Our cable, phones, etc. are bundled, and we get a discount because my husband's employer uses Verizon. It would be a total pain in the rear and more expensive for us to undo all that.

4. This is a hard issue. I don't know the political inclinations |
|
of most businesses or individuals I patronize. Nor do I go out of my way to find out. However, when I do, and I disagree with them I will not give them my money when I have a choice. For example, Johnsonville sausage supported Scott Walker in our recent debacle of a governor's election. I have many choices when I want bratwurst. So, I buy Usingers instead. I don't make a big deal of it, I just put my $$ elsewhere when I can.
