"US prez George Bush has admitted he does not send personal emails to daughters Jenna and Barbara for fear that his "personal stuff" might end up in the public domain.

Bush made the admission on Thursday to the American Society of Newspaper Editors during a discussion centring on whether the US government is sufficiently forthcoming to requests made under the Freedom of Information Act, Reuters reports. Bush said the administration gets around 3.5 million FOIA requests a year and noted: "I would hope that those who expose documents are wise about the difference between that which truly would jeopardize national security and that which should be read."

We leave it to readers to imagine quite what exactly any email between George and Jenna and Barbara might contain which - were it released into the wild - could threaten national security*. Bush says it's a personal privacy issue: "I don't want you reading my personal stuff," he admitted, adding: "There has got to be a certain sense of privacy. You know, you're entitled to how I make decisions. And you're entitled to ask questions, which I answer. I don't think you're entitled to be able to read my mail between my daughters and me."

17. yes ... like every time you walk into a doctors' office, a hospital, and other places like mail-in-
prescription drug plans, insurance companies, pharmacies, etc., etc., etc., and they first want you to sign a PRIVACY STATEMENT which authorizes them to release without further request or further approval from you any da*m information they want to release about you to whoever and whomever may be asking for it, and then, after that, they want to know your DOB, your SS#, your phone #, your street addres, and ...

and i better shut up, i can easily get off on a rant here.

4. What a lovely little spin..
As if the documents requested by FOIA would have anything to do with his relationship with his daughters. What a loser.

5. Nobody wants to read emails to your daughters, you fucking piece of shit.
I hope Americans can squeeze just enough out of FOIA to enable us to get on with the war crimes tribunals. Then Bush can email his daughters from The Hague.

Unless of course he has an unnatural relationship with them. You have to admit, there's something really strange about the guy.

6. The irony just pours and pours...
...out of this man. He's like the human Niagara falls.

He doesn't want US reading HIS personal stuff?????????

Yet. He can illegally wiretap us, read our email, root through our bank
accounts and declare us enemy combatants if we protest his policies--and then
haul us off to a dark prison, torture us, and deny us a fair trial.

But HE doesn't want us reading his personal stuff????????????

What's next...will Charles Manson declare that society is too violent
for him, because we deny him early release from prison????

He sees absolutely nothing wrong with a double standard.

Yes, TwoSparkles -- I agree that he's like Niagara Falls, only what pours out of him is even less scenic (and certainly not drinkable).

he loves gettin' into other people's stuff, but absolutely hates it when someone gets into his.

Typical paranoid psychotic.

32. and another possible parallel with that movie, ixion
I seem to remember Keaton's character destroying the place. I admit that I myself am not a neatnik, but I've never done stuff like this to anywhere I happened to be living ...

Located in the heart of Cloverdale - an exclusive, old-money neighborhood in Montgomery, Alabama - the house, his son Neil remembers now, "was a total wreck." A chandelier was badly damaged, there were holes in the wall and the place was full of empty liquor bottles. "The cleaning bill alone was $900," Neil Smith says, "which was no small thing in 1972." One detail about the mess stood out. "The bedding had to be hauled out into the street," says Jackson Stell, a friend of Pryor Smith. "Pryor said there must have been no sheets on the bed, the mattress was so horribly soiled."

"The trash and damage clearly came from drunken partying," says Mary Smith, who was married to Pryor at the time. "Pryor was very specific that this was related to booze."

35. Not only him...
But Corporations are getting good at sifting through email accounts, online storage, etc. without permission or recourse. Just try suing an insurance company for benefits if you don't believe me. Some may insist "THAT'S ILLEGAL - YOU COULD SUE," but producing evidence is tough unless you have money for a great attorney.

36. Are you saying...
...that health-insurance or auto-insurance companies are "sifting through email accounts, online storage"--and then deny
benefits to people, based on information that is gleaned when they spy in your email and online storage?

That sounds incredibly Orwellian. I hope I've read that wrong.

I've never heard of anyone being denied benefits--due to the insurance company unearthing information from an email account.

Interesting.

He. Is. Such. A. Twat.

Assuming you meant we're entitled to *know* how you make decisions ... then tell us again, Mr. Bush, why you signed an executive order preventing us from ever knowing the whole truth about your administration, indeed that of previous administrations. Hmmm? So you don't email? Apparently other folks in the White House do ... where are those *millions* of emails now?

I seriously feel physically ill when I have to look at the man, let alone here the bullshit he spews.

*gag*

19. More than that
The Bushes don't talk to their daughters much and hang out more with the Cheneys and their inner circle gang. It is a generational frat clique mot a normal family. It also puts distance between the embarrassing behaviors of the separate generations. How the PR coordinates the family is moire important than the rarer personal get togethers where anyone actually discusses important things.

So much to cover up when you are a crappy multi-generational dynasty like this one. From WWI war privateers(both sides) to attempted coup Nazi supporters to actual coup corporatists with miserably hypocritical mean private lives and opinions, you bet they have a habit of not letting anything out in any form whatsoever. E-mails must scare their kind silly because they know all about the digital possibilities from their involvement in election fraud. Half the records would be utterly ruinous and the other half hanging offenses.

I've said it before. I stick to it. Test the Man. If it's not drugs, try Early Stage Dementia.

If those tests come up short, I'd call for an exorcism.

A place to escape when he's no longer president. Like a captain leaving a sinking ship.
It's bad enough that he didn't read the memos of warning about the coming 9-11 disaster but this guy wont even read the speeches written for him. And when he's off script - you better duck.

29. There's no double standard here! Bush is telling us that email, internet is PUBLIC DOMAIN
and that HE, becuase he is concerned for personal privacy, won't put anything in email or on the Internet that he thinks shouldn't be broadcast to the ENTIRE WORLD.

The problem that everyone on this thread has is that they think that email and Internet communications are private and secure, or that they should be.

They're just NOT, and NEVER HAVE BEEN!

And won't be any time soon.

So think about it!!

37. While I agree that the Chimpster is grammatically challenged
I think "between my daughters and me" is miraculously correct. Between is a preposition, "me" is an object of the preposition, and is the proper form for an object.
