52. I'm sure Rachel wouldn't have to take a cut in salary!
Current TV has made a huge investment positioning themselves into this niche as an independent voice unconstrained by the corporate overlords that own MSNBC. From Day 1 Keith has said he wants Rachel to come over when her contract ends.

It's unknown if she would leave, however. At MSNBC she is the star and, as such, has been largely untouched by the corporate bigwigs because of her high ratings. She also has the resources of NBC News to draw on for reporters and stories. On the other hand, I'm sure CurrentTV would make an attractive offer and guaranteed independence.

Now all of America knows, without a doubt, how msnbc is part of the same establishment that gives you faux noise, conservative network news, and now a fake liberal media for consumption by ignorant sheeple. We have to tell all we can about this scam, so we will beat it. Congrats Cenk, you are a real warrior for truth.

70. LOL! Yeah, you're a legend in your own mind!
I see it a little differently. TYT has a FUCKING HUGE audience without MSNBC.

Additionally, anyone who posts anti-Firedog Lake crap is essentially saying they HATE it when a Leftist promotes Liberal and Progressive policy. Which pretty much speaks for itself.

The truth is, more and more people are seeing beyond the love affair with Barack and waking up to the fact that the failures we are seeing in the promotion of Progressive policy are BECAUSE OF US, THE DEMOCRATS and not the Republicans.

Barack Obama is NO leader.

Barack Obama is bought and paid for.

Barack Obama will not change his direction when we tell him AGAIN what we really want.

He's sold out the chance of a generation to really set this nation on a sane and Progressive track.

He should be primaried and not just for show but because he's a liar or a failure or both!

And, contrary to your theory that pushing Left means your a Republican it means you actually GIVE A FUCK and aren't afraid of what lock steppers and shills say.

71. When your team is losing criticizing the winning team won't help your game!
It's just what people who are too weak to take criticism and look at their own failures do. Blame everyone else but yourself. I say fuck that!

The reason Republicans win when they have a majority and win when they have a minority and Democrats loose when they have a minority and loose when they have a majority is not because the Democrats are "better" in battle. It's because they are dong something VERY WRONG!

If more people at DU stood firm and clear about their goals and didn't make excuses for our failures we would be a stronger team, not weaker.

67. Actually Cenk filled in for several hosts on MSNBC
for a long time before he got his own slot. He got really good responses from viewers and as such, earned his own show.

The first few times I saw Sharpton in Cenk's old slot, he was doing far more "tossing the red meat" than I'd ever seen Cenk do. Sharpton yelled at conservative guests, didn't let them answer his questions, and finished people's sentences. It was very uncomfortable watching him, but I didn't know at the time that he might get that show permanently.

Oh, and I like The Young Turks and I thought Cenk was a really nice change of pace for MSNBC. I agree with you about Dylan Ratigan though.

72. Can't Speak for Others
But I don't think Sharpton plays well, and why not just give him one of two Chris Matthews slots, at 4 or 6? Sharpton is a great guest, and I like the idea of getting someone like Van Jones, but he just isn't that great at being a television host. It's as simple as that, he's clumsy, doesn't read the prompter well, which is why he makes a better guest, as he's just reacting, speaking from his own mind.

Don't try to make it something it isn't, just find someone who plays, who is a liberal black guy, maybe with a bit of youth, and put him on in Chris's slot.

Cenk was fired because he told the truth, pure and simple truth, about the corrupt system of government, where corporations pay congressmen for laws, and media, they are about as corporate as anyone. They didn't like the fact he called them on their crap. And Cenk explained that his ratings were improving, and crediting Sharpton on his first day, for Cenk's show is disingenuous at best. I set my DVR to record because Cenk's on--when I watched Sharpton (once again, like him as a guest), I stopped setting it.

MSNBC is getting a history for firing it's best hosts, with the best ratings, Donahue, Olbermann, and now Cenk.

Cenk is right. They're all corrupt as hell. But they decided that they couldn't afford to have him continually pointing that out. No matter what his ratings were. You stick to the script -- or you're gone. Because in the end this isn't about money, it's about power.

Him and Amy went over a list of others, including Phil Donahue, who got the axe for not going along with the establishment view. One reporter, they wouldn't even let out of her contract, so she could work somewhere else. Just paid her to sit in the closet.

In Cenk's case, they offered him more money to host some week-end spots and be a "contributor.

On the same show, the segment with Michael Hudson is must see TV.

65. Here are the facts
Just thought I would clarify a couple of things:

1. Cenk was told he wouldn't be getting the show BEFORE Sharpton filled in for him. This was at the end in June. That in and of itself makes Sharpton's ratings totally irrelevant to this story, and it's unfortunate that some people are trying to make this Cenk Vs Sharpton (Cenk has nothing against Sharpton).

2. In his announcement on TYT Cenk never talks about Sharpton's ratings (nothing negative about Sharpton at all). He just correctly points out that once he (to an extent) started doing the show his way the ratings went up AND that in the 3 months that make up Q2 of 2011 he beat CNN and improved on Schultz'z ratings from this time last year (he praises Schultz in that clip btw).

51. Could have continued the interview and thrown the delta up on the website.
I was a little upset by that as well. I get it, but it sucks.

48. Me and my 65 year old mother are both "fanboys" I guess.
I knew he wouldn't last though. Too much truth.

57. I hope Keith's sign-off was a hint of Cenk's show to come!

59. Keith needs to learn some respect
You seem pretty fair, but the way you cut off Cenk was rude. Learn to treat your best guests with respect or I can't take you seriously.

Cenk, your tone is the best thing about you. I always enjoy your tone, your strength, your knowledge, and your pleasant personality. Keep up the fight until we win!

63. I've always liked Cenk's tone, his passion for the news and his detailed coverage of issues
that the corporate types were too afraid to touch or too compromised to cover from a more populist, progressive or outside of the box point of view.

Overall I thought this was a good interview, other than them running out of time at the end, I could have enjoyed watching it longer.

Thanks for the thread, Hissyspit.

76. So much drama!
Every thread I've seen on the Cenk-Sharpton debate has been a train wreck!.

Clearly each inspires passionate ideas. The fierceness of the debate is surprising! I can't even imagine paid trolls being that interested.

Cenk is being neither eliminated nor silenced. He is losing a corporate platform and Reverend Al is gaining one.

As many others here speculate, I expect Cenk will move to Current. It will be inconvenient for some of us, including myself, to follow him there. :(

MSNBC thinks we will be happy now, because they gave a Black Man a show. And some will.

Rev. Sharpton is uncomfortable to watch, and I doubt he will improve much. Personally, I think there are a lot better ones available (Eugene). I believe he also did a substitute stint for Ed, who doesn't count anyways, because he, too, used to be a Conservative :eyes:.

(In fact, I think Ed has been one of his backers at MSNBC.)

80. Cenk is better off and Rev. Sharpton is a bad choice
Edited on Fri Jul-22-11 09:16 PM by texshelters
Cenk has his own gig and doesn't need this one, but his new expanding audience could use his perspective on the air.

Why does this make be think of the classic movie Network? Hmmm.

Sharpton is a bad choice, better Eugene Robinson, who is smart enough to turn it down, or Chris Hayes.

Peace,
