1. Cenk doesn't bow the MSM culture |
|
Howard Fineman once described the atmosphere in a room full of journalists watching the debate between Al Gore and G.W.Bush. At one point in the debate Al Gore sighed at a Bush answer and Fineman said there was an audible gasp among the reporters. For days every story in the MSM was "the sigh" and how arrogant Gore was at the debate, despite the fact he destroyed G.W. by any measure. This was my "ah hah" moment, now I get it - it's one big lazy group-think club.
Cenk isn't Kowtowing and they can't handle it.

The truth? I don't think Cenk can handle the truth. He just wasn't very good.
Cenk seems like a good guy, but he definitely wasn't ready for prime time. He ought to stop whining and move on - talk about "burning bridges." What network (except Current - which needs to go HD - it's very hard to focus when the picture looks like crap) is going to take a chance on him in the future if this is how he reacts. This was HIS decision - also blaming Al Sharpton is ridiculous. Get over Cenk, before you're totally unemployable. The net is a much better place for you anyway. Remember all his pleading to get on MSNBC to begin with and his continual reminders to watch to get the Neilson ratings? You got what you wanted, then blew it. Obviously, my opinion is not in the majority here. So be it.

3. You Underestimate the Importance of this Even |
|
You don't understand that he was a liberal voice, silenced by the corporate media. There can never be enough voices telling the story of media filters, of corporate sway. I commented a week ago, knowing this so well, that I thought he'd be the first one fired by Comcast. And he was.
You can pretend it is different, that he moved his hands around too much, or that his ratings were low (rising), or that Sharpton was given the slot due to the need of a black host, something I agree with, by why not Chris's, but in truth we have a guy who was telling the truth, destroying Canards that MSNBC has been partly responsible for driving into the minds of our population, that have at least in a big part, contributed to the current depression within which we all reside.
Don't underestimate the importance of this event. Comcast bought GE/NBC/MSNBC, and have now canned two of their most liberal hosts, their most adamant truth-tellers. More will fall, you'll see, maybe you even want that to happen, I don't know.

6. Cenk was offered money to modify his message. He turned it down! I think that is admirable... |
|
no doubt THAT is also not a popular viewpoint.

7. 5 Myths About Cenk Leaving MSNBC |
|
Myth 1 - Cenk was replaced because Sharpton got better ratings for two weeks while Cenk was on vacation.Cenk was told he wouldn't be getting the show BEFORE Sharpton filled in for him. This was at the end of June. That in and of itself makes Sharpton's ratings totally irrelevant to this story. In http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5x7o0sNrulg&feature=channel_video_title|his announcement> on TYT Cenk correctly points out that once he (to an extent) started doing the show his way the ratings went up AND that in the 3 months that make up Q2 of 2011 he beat CNN and improved on Schultz'z ratings from last year (he praises Schultz in that clip btw).
Myth 2 - Cenk claims the Obama White House came down on MSNBC.
Cenk never got more specific than what MSNBC president Phil Griffin told him. People in Washington may or may not include someone at the White House, and Cenk made a point to NOT say it was the White House.
Myth 3 - Cenk was demoted, then fired when he didn't accept the demotion.
Cenk was offered a weekend show/contributor role for double the money. Can you think of any other jobs in which you get less responsibility and exposure and a gigantic raise? Also, the NY Times reported that he was well liked at MSNBC but more importantly here's a direct quote from an http://www.huffingtonpost.com/democracy-now/cenk-uygur-leaves-msnbc_b_906708.html|MSNBC spokesman>:
...we were working on a new contract, to develop him into an even bigger television talent.
Myth 4 - MSNBC wouldn't let go of Cenk for his harsh criticism of politicians and then go on to hire a firebreathing bull like Sharpton.
In a recent 60 Minutes interview http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/07/25/cenk-uygur-al-sharpton-is_n_908385.html|Sharpton vowed not to criticize president Obama>. Leave it to HuffPo to make the headline more inflammatory but there it is.
Myth 5 - Cenk is unemployed/he hosts some obscure web show.
Glossing over the fact that Cenk has been interviewing Senators (Ted Kennedy, Bernie Sanders, Harry Reid, etc.), Congressman (long list), former presidents (Jimmy Carter), Fed chairmen (Alan Greenspan), talk show hosts (Rachel Maddow, Lou Dobbs, Stephanie Miller, Thom Hartmann, etc.), filmmakers (Michael Moore, Robert Greenwald), journalists/reporters (Matt Taibbi and people from the NY Times, WaPo, HuffPo and everything in between) there's this:

5. Corporate power delivers your Internet connection... THEY WILL FUCK YOU! |
|
Edited on Tue Jul-26-11 12:51 PM by seeker4ever
It's a matter of time.
Liars, cheats, cowards and sycophants make money in the current main stream, establishment political system, and that includes both parties.
To stand up and take a chance, to speak out and challenge authority and the greedy worms is, as always, a sign of bravery and independence. Bravery and independence do not come with health care and fake retirement plans or per post payments, they come with risk and unpopularity initially.
