As Congressman Paul Ryan cracked a joke about him, Tom Nielsen found himself face down on the floor being handcuffed by police. The 71-year-old retired plumber from Kenosha was thrown to the ground, placed in handcuffs, and arrested for trespassing and resisting arrest after objecting to Ryan's plans to gut Social Security and Medicare during his congressman's only public appearance scheduled during the August recess -- a $15 Rotary Club luncheon in West Allis on Tuesday.

Nielsen repeatedly told police that he wasn't fighting them and that he didn't want to make any trouble. He also told them several times that he had a broken shoulder. Police officers ignored his comments as they wrestled him to the ground despite his howls of pain.

Nielsen's comment to Ryan at the luncheon, his arrest, and Ryan's joke are all captured on video available here.

1. Ryan is a horse manure. As for the porkers in question,
when their benefits are cut, they will deserve it.

2. Did any protesters during the health care town hall meetings get
this kind of treatment.... I know they were off the charts loud and angry, but can't remember any arrests....

5. I wonder the same thing as I watch video after video of angry town-halls like this one.
I remember seeing TeaBaggers with their silly costumes and tea bags hanging from their hats. And I remember their acrimony and how many of them "took control" of townhalls. Yet, no "take downs" by police.

Then I see this video and I wonder: why can TeaBaggers scream out and remain unmolested yet this citizen, seeing how the Repubs are lying about Medicare and Social Security, is taken down and handcuffed for pointing out Repub hypocrisy and lies.

Any shouting 'Baggers taken down in this video?:

How about this one?:

And then there's this:

Where are the 'cuffs and takedowns on conservatives who disrupt townhalls?

3. Deplorable that Ryan made a joke about his constituent's blood pressure medicine
& very telling that when the man began to speak, Ryan reached for his glass of water, as though he knew -- because it was decided beforehand between Ryan & the police -- what was going to happen to this man.

4. Wish I had...
Mr. Nielson's address so I could send him a card of encouragement and thanks for standing up and speaking truth to power. Ryan was definitely the lesser man here.

6. Can anyone understand what Neilsen is saying?
Edited on Thu Sep-08-11 10:34 AM by demwing
I heard "HEY! Why don't you ... (unintelligible)... I paid into that for 50 years, my unemployment, and my Social Security, and my Medicare...now you're gonna (yelling)..."

Can anyone make out the missing section at the beginning?

He'd get more than just a piece of my mind...

8. Incident took place at the Brookfield WI Whitnall Park Rotary
The incident took place at the Brookfield WI Whitnall Park Rotary and here is their mission statement:

Rotary Foundation Mission statement:
The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

The Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world.

What a bunch of crap and I suggest we file a complaint with the Rotary International and voice our contempt for this shameful Rotarian behavior.
