3. Let's be honest. Saying "Capitalism is evil" won't set well with the vast majority of Americans

who grew up in a "Capitalism vs Communism" environment. You will NOT reeducate them by standing on a sidewalk with a sign proclaiming your Socialist/Communist affiliation. Yes, I know, capitalism really IS evil. BUT, this is the same kind of failure of framing that has conceded victory to the Republicans over and over again. We come blasting at middle America with a message that is, on the surface of it, and without any explanation or nuance, utterly unpalatable to them. Can we really persuade the average American by threatening the very foundation of their way of life? Are they going to be understanding or sympathetic? No way.

I don't see anyone in that crowd that would do anything but alienate the average middle American. Except maybe the juggler.

The medium is the message and the kinds of people out there, and the framing of their message won't get much, if any sympathy from the average American. The whole crowd is too easily dismissed as "hippies and communists". Oh, and "the juggler."

The "framing" of any event is most largely done by the media coverage,. in this case none so far. If these brave people are successful in holding the area, and disrupting the street when it is open, then there will be coverage.

The message is a bit more complex than "Capitalism is Evil". Try "Corporate Capitalism is Evil" or "Rigged Markets are NOT Free", or "Private Profits Public Losses (Debt)", or "The Monetary System is Broken", or "Stock Market = Casino, The house wins again!" or "Public Debt is Free Money for Banksters" and so forth and so on.

and certainly better than a kid with a beard holding up a sign that says "I'm a Communist and I'm here to solve your problems for you."

this is direct democracy, not socialism/communism. There are many different belief systems at play here but you should watch one of the General Assemblies to see how our decisions are being made.
