1. No, no! Not when I have a relative in Istanbul! |
|
And why is she there? Because it's the only country nobody in the family has ever visited. That's not a good reason.

2. I don't understand the reasoning about why she's there... |
|
The final statement on the piece indicated Turkey can't afford to go up against the US, so it may just be more bloviating.

While I understand the need to set the record straight so to speak, why not try to restore our moral standing by doing something a little more urgent, say end the war in Iraq? Stand up the President? etc.?

5. Look in to Sibel Edmonds and the possible bribing of the former Speaker. |

He kept this tabled for the support of Turkey according to him. Not necessarily, according to her. I attended a protest at his office where Armenians pleaded their cause. I talked to survivors who had their families eliminated. Should they be ignored? Genocide is a real problem if you look at the Holocaust, Rwanda, Native Americans,......

I completely agree that genocide is a pressing issue and should be treated accordingly. However, my main issue is that the reasoning given is that "we are trying to set the record straight and improve our moral standing". I agree that it's a worthy cause but I feel that a more pressing issue for our elected representatives to be handling is the conflict in Iraq and the genocide that is being carried out there by both the insurgents, terrorists and yes, our military.
I did have a thought - perhaps this is addressing the issue of Iraq in a roundabout way. It does restrict air access into Iraq from the air base in Turkey, thus hampering the supply/entry route through that country. While there are alternatives, there is no doubt that this does pressure the military and the government to find a way around it. I'm not entirely sure this is a sound strategy but if its the case itmay work out in the end anyway.

7. ... What about the Native American Genocide? |

We have quite the checkered past...
Anyhow, Turkey is a funny country sometimes when it comes to demand things.
