When a politician gets caught blatantly lying to the American public, it can severely damage their career. But when corporations do the same thing, they just continue with business as usual, and the public barely pays attention. This is the case with Takeda Pharmaceuticals who have lied to the American public about the dangers of their blockbuster diabetes drug Actos and Mike Papantonio recently discussed the issue with Chris Paulos, one of the attorneys who is working to hold Takeda accountable for their negligence.

2. ActosPlus
I have been taking ActosPlus for five years. Is there a way I
can contact this attorney, or should I contact a local one.

3. One bright side...
is that this medication (and other glitazones) has been known for sometime to exacerbate other health related issues, namely heart failure (that's not the brightside). To that point it isn't prescribed often. This finding may be enough to put it out of it's misery. That's the upside, IMO. There are certainly other (and better, cheaper) choices out there. If someone is being confronted with the potential use of this medication, they should really consider going on Insulin if they haven't made any serious attempts at lifestyle change and they've exhausted the other 2 first line agents.

The drug company should certainly be held accountable, but they won't be. I'm pretty sure there was a ruling back during the H1N1 vaccination roll out that limited manufacturer liability to virtually nothing if side effects from the vaccines occurred enmasse. I'm sure it won't be long before this is extended to other/all medications. I could be wrong. Where future liability will probably fall is on the doctor, pharmacist and patient.

Equally responsible is the FDA for not scrutinizing the trial data to find these little tidbits of potential issues. The incidence rate found was: 0.16% - 0.44% (Trial data, not French data). For the most part that would be seen as "not significant". Here is a stat to munch on: 97% of all medication trials are funded by the parent drug company. Of those 97%, 98% show favorable results for the drug that company is trialing. I may be off a percentage point or two, but I think you get the picture.

4. FDA, incompetent? Or, just corrupt (as with much of the rest of government)? You decide. - K&R n/t
