16. Couple This With What News Corp |
|
Has been charged with doing and a pattern emerges that the way to surge ahead is to engage in corruption. No wonder they speak out so forcefully against regulation as they have been hammered with hundreds of millions in corruption related fines over the years. And it has only gotten worse since Citizens United has said that corporations are people -- at least on one level. Real people face 3 strikes and you're out rules that don't apply to corporate "people" since Koch Industries has 5 felony convictions (and counting) on their record. Underhanded practices and corruption define corporations like Koch Industries and News Corp.

6. I'm not sure if anyone noticed the dates in which they were casually bribing? |
|
Edited on Wed Oct-05-11 01:14 AM by glowing
From 2002 - 2008. (After 9/11 seemingly) Seems they were afraid of a new administration and went in to clean up their business. During the Bush years they didn't have to worry about any issues with bribing.. They bought enough of a political seat with BushCo.

8. Laws are for the "little people". Hey, did you hear about Solyndra? |
|
Why don't the RW talking heads cover the Koch Brothers scandal/fraud/abuse of taxpayer money? This is a lot worse than Solyndra.

24. You're correct. Sorry to state the obvious. |
|
It's frustrating how much it sucks that people fixate on something insignificant while remaining blissfully ignorant of the important issues.

Edited on Wed Oct-05-11 07:58 AM by kdtroxel
A responsible government would revoke their corporate charter and dissolve their company, then make sure they don't simply rename themselves under a new name. Unfortunately, the most favorite fund raising tactic of most any congress person is to sell anti-trust exemptions, to which I'm sure Koch Co. has many of.

15. Jail??? JAIL???? Why when they can just pay the fine? |
|
Now let's see... will we lose money or make money by just periodically paying a hefty fine? Hmmmm... Still coming out in the black even with multiple fines? Alrighty then!
Fines shmines! Threaten them with real jail time... and seizure of the company. Seize their assets. We could really get the deficit down with that.

26. If the Koch brothers crimes continue to be so profitable for them, |
|
and they suffer no serious losses as you suggest, the brothers have no incentive to stop breaking laws.
Another case of crime pays - extremely well in this case.

14. Nothing will come of this |
|
There are 2 justice systems in the world, one for the vast majority of us and another for the rich and privileged. The R&P court will put on a little show so it looks like laws are meant to apply to everyone regardless of status and to placate the masses.
Then, of course, the judge will let off the Koch's with a slap on the wrist so insignificant it'll feel like a cashmere blanket lightly wisking along the backs of their pampered little hands. Said judge will ultimately be rewarded with a significant campaign contribution by an unnamed corporate entity so that they may continue to "serve" the citizenry indefinitely.
This is just the way things are in the world, and we just have to accept it. Money buys EVERYTHING and those without are screwed.

I'm asking you to stop making pronouncements of this sort. You can believe what you wish, of course, but you have no standing to inflate your opinions into eternal truths. It helps no-one to attempt to convince others to give up.

21. Nothing to see here.... |
|
Unfortunately, whether these actions were illegal or only immoral or unethical, nothing will come of them. Obama has no intention of prosecuting wrong-doing. He is one of them. Yes he has done some good things such as repeal of DADT, the HRC law which is subject to a Supreme Court judgment, etc. but he won't go any further. We need a true champion of the people and the only one I see anywhere in the country is the lioness from Massachusetts.
