7. I miss KO
Ilike LO and RM but I do miss KO As for what KO called Beck, I would say it is inadequate to describw Beck. A whole new word should be coined.

10. Am I wrong to say I agree with Beck?
On the "Guillotined" Part
After years of increasing dissatisfaction with the way they were treated by the royal family and aristocratic class, the people of France moved towards improving their lot in life by the formation of a National Assembly on 17 June 1789.

The people wanted an end to tax exemptions and special privileges given to the nobility.

The civil unrest grew stronger and, less than a month later, a crowd stormed Paris' Bastille prison and released a handful of prisoners languishing there.

After two years of detention King Louis XVI attempted to flee France, but was captured by revolutionaries at Varennes.

Trapped, the King agreed to a constitution, but as the revolutionary armies were hit by defeat after defeat the extremists pushed to rid themselves of opponents and the monarchy.

The Terror was unleashed and on 21 September the Republic of France was announced.

The hardliners still wanted the King out of the way and put him on trial. He was condemned to death and guillotined on 21 January 1793. His wife, Marie-Antoinette, suffered the same fate on 16 October that year.

So my question is was the first use of Madame Guillotine on the Aristocrats justified or not? I know the hardliners got carried away and killed another estimated 40,000 people who most likely did not deserve it.

11. not sure, are you saying you think the protests will lead to beheadings?
Or just that the French aristocracy deserved what they got?

I would say no to the first and maybe to the second.

13. Well I suppose I was trying to ask
Is it main stream thinking that the French Revolution was bad since that is usually what you think of when they talk about the Guillotine.

14. We need to keep this story in the minds of the wealthy because we do not want
that outcome. France ended up with Napoleon -- not good for anyone but Napoleon.

We who are not rich cannot prevent our country from ending up as France did. Anger is the inevitable product of deep class divisions and an unfair tax system that shifts too heavy a burden on the poor and middle classes.

We are a nation, and we will ALL share the fate of our nation.

The only people who have the power to change the course down which we are headed are those who express themselves effectively (including organized folk like the Occupy Wall Street groups) and whose job it is to educate and those who have the economic (and therefore the police) power.

With the exception of the Civil War, we have always or pretty near always been able to resolve our differences and solve our problems without excessive violence.

Let's try to do that again. Please, please, please. We all have lives to live and if we don't our children and grandchildren do.
