2. Joseph Smith was the first great science fiction writer. |
It would be funny to change the name of the book and have people read it as science fiction and see if enough people would buy it to where they would make a movie? Could be pretty good!

3. You could day the exact same thing about the bible...or the koran...or the (insert book) |
ALL religions are con jobs and bullshit. The human species is doomed to mediocrity as long as we persist in believing fairy tales over the truth - there is nothing after death and to continue in trembling fear of a post-death detention or a celestial mansion in the clouds is sheer FOLLY!
ANY religious story is indistinguishable from fable when the familiar names are removed...

5. Don't tell that to all the people who believe in a talking snake! |
Try putting it like that, when you describe Genesis to your friends who believe in Christian mythology!

4. Religion absolutely is a con game. |
All religion is, is a means to control masses of people. That's what I believe, and I'm stickin' to it!

6. you all are talking about literalism. I don't believe in literalism of |
any kind including the kind what asserts that what THEY say is also inviolate. People explore their spirituality in a number of ways that are good and kind. To assert that all 'religion', ie, spirituality is bullshit is bullshit. Blame that part who do believe in literal interpretation and leave the rest of us alone. You don't have to agree with what I've said but I have equal status in my pov because it doesn't require the supernatural side of my spirit and soul, but the rest. and that is good.

7. Try telling all this to an evangelical Christian. |
You will soon learn that you are headed straight for Hell. It's their way or the highway to Hades. It's not literalism; it's mind control.

8. but do you still believe in a guy who lives in the cloud, |
and presides over everything? I do not! Many people's need for the supernatural comes from their lack of knowledge as to the way that things actually are. This is just what mythology was created for. People either fail to understand, or decide not to understand the real facts of things, so they make up these mythical characters, and pray to them, rather than work to make things better, or understand reality.
