2. And then the Captain said, "Fetch me my brown pants..."
That pilot is good. It looked like he was working the brakes at the very end to keep the nose off the ground as long as possible.

4. wow is right---skilled pilot there
All aboard must have been terrified of a far worse outcome. I can relate. Years ago on a flight to LA the pilot announced that the indicator light for the landing gear was not working and they had no idea if it meant that it was only a light malfunction or that the landing gear itself would not work. So he flew the plane out over the ocean and dumped almost all the fuel, then circled over the airport while ground crews tried to see from below what the state of the landing gear was by shining bright lights up at the plane.

Nothing could be determined, so the pilot told us that we had no option but to try to land regardless. We were instructed to roll up into a ball and hope for the best. Looking down we could see all the fire trucks and emergency vehicles waiting for a looming disaster. As we began the descent, it was the longest minutes of my life--truly scary for all. The plane landed fine, however--it was the light malfunction only, thankfully. My husband and I were pretty rattled though. We chucked our return tickets and rented a car to drive home several days later.

6. Amazing. Easy to say looking on from the outside, but what a smooth landing.
I'm awed by pilots' skill and coolness at times.

10. Please folks- let's give credit where credit is due-
Namely- the engineers at Boeing Aircraft Company, who, in 1963, designed and produced an airliner capable of meeting FAA regulations- namely that a single failure (nose wheel) would not jeopardize the safety of the aircraft.

Credit properly goes to: Boeing Engineers (SPEEA Union today), and the FAA Engineers and Inspectors (NATCA and PASS today), all UNIONIZED workers who designed, built, and certified that airframe.

15. Your right regulations are what saved those people.
The Pilot was trained for that but the most important part is the construction and inspections of the airplane also very skilled workers.

17. today, I'm giving credit to the pilot who knew what do to in that moment
it's nice that boeing built a plane the way it was supposed to be built--properly--but the skill of the pilot played a HUGE part in a whole lot of people not being killed.

12. 900 people have died in air disasters in Iran in the last decade.
Due to sanctions they cant buy parts or new aircraft.

But they can still get military stuff.

Those sanctions are great, huh..

16. Jet Blue had a similar emergency at LAX a few years ago
The Airbus A320 front landing gear got stuck sideways as the airplane took off from Burbank. This time the gear was left down, and after roll out all that was left was the vertical support, which had to have been incredibly strong.

Since the airplane didn't have a fuel dump, they had to fly around in circles for three hours to burn off enough jet fuel to make a safe landing. The passengers weren't bored, however. Each seat back had a television screen that was showing them a live broadcast of their airplane, complete with all that wonderful "worst condition" commentary we've come to expect during situations like this.

They turned off the television feed on final approach.

video

Why don't you guys take a break from all the political bullshit for a moment and appreciate the extraordinary actions of the aircrew? Airplanes don't care about the nationality of the pilot.

Exactly like it is supposed to happen, in events such as this.

I miss the B727...I like more engines, rather than less.
