18. A better number for calling Quan
The number at the site you list will work but far better is 510-444-CITY.

Every time I call it I get a live person so long as it's 9 to 4 CA time.

Keith is completey right.

She's "not home". Completely passed the buck on her responsibility to be in control of the police and to lead. Incompetent and evasive. Oakland and the 99 must have better than this.

17. thanks for posting and I think he could have gone further...
the cost of a few porta-potties etc is a better solution than injuring even one person and allowing police to practice and grow (more) cynical to their abuse and battery of citizens. I hope the organizers keep everyone focused, peaceful, and vigilant. I hope the protesters quash any vandalism, which is more likely 'plants' anyway.

5. Statement from Mayor Jean Quan about today’s enforcement action

Oakland Mayor Jean Quan
October 25, 2011
7:30 am

Statement from Mayor Jean Quan about
today’s enforcement action
...
Many Oaklanders support the goals of the national Occupy Wall Street movement. We maintained daily communication with the protest0rs in Oakland.

However, over the last week it was apparent that neither the demonstrators nor the City could maintain safe or sanitary conditions, or control the ongoing vandalism. Frank Ogawa Plaza will continue to be open as a free speech area from 6 am to 10 pm.

We want to thank the police, fire, public works and other employees who worked over the last week to peacefully close the encampment. We also thank the majority of the protestors who peacefully complied with city officials.

I commend Chief Jordan for a generally peaceful resolution to a situation that deteriorated and concerned our community. His leadership was critical in the successful execution of this operation . City Administrator Deanna Santana developed the plan and secured mutual aid from other departments and the State of California. She will direct departmental teams, including safety, public works, communications, to restore conditions at the Plaza so that it is available for public use.

The City welcomes all Oaklanders to continue to use the Plaza during daylight hours for peaceful protest.

14. Peacefully?
I don't think she should call it peaceful when there were serious injuries.

10. Well, there's Democrats
And, then there's Dummycrats. Maybe the lady's donors cranked up the pressure on her. The Democrats in Washington don't seem overly supportive of the movement either. Money has the power to change honest people into something crooked and nasty like a republican sometimes.

13. Preventing the lawful exercise of constitutional rights
and seriously injuring or killing innocent people trying to protest has the power to change law-abiding citizens into a group that will respond in kind. They should remember that there are more of us then there are of them. Payback is a major bitch.

15. I think that those in the political class, with all their many rules of
order, and their protocols, while they deny us our jobs, while they let the banks and biggest insurers purchase our Congress, and our Presidents, and our state officials, all thee people are going to find it a very bad place to be as the provrbial decends upon them.
