WASHINGTON -- Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry raised some eyebrows Friday night with a speech performance in Manchester, N.H., that was unusually expressive.

A Huffington Post reporter was in the audience for the speech but did not have a chance to review video footage of the Texas governor's remarks until Saturday afternoon when a montage of moments in the speech surfaced on YouTube.

The video below is not a full version of his remarks. It is a carefully edited montage designed to highlight the giddiest and strangest moments of a roughly 25-minute speech. ....

I disagree with pretty much all he said, of course; but

(a) he seems at least somewhat sincere.
(b) he does have a kind of goofy charm.

Of course, he's presidential material only in the sense W was: manageable by the powers that be.

His ideology is vile, of course, but I do get the sense that he is far more a regular human being than people like Bush or Romney. People so far removed from society that they literally lack basic social skills and empathy and have extremely bizarre paradigms of the world.

I could easily imagine running into a "Rick Perry" type at the grocery store. I would probably hate the guy, but I'm saying he at least seems like your normal jerk from the neighborhood.

And yes... he was definitely intoxicated here. He should have been taking whatever he's now taking back at the debates.

My guess is that his poll numbers are showing that he is coming across like.... well, Rick Perry. Maybe if he would pretend he had charisma and was a fun guy that people would like, his poll numbers would go up? But, he is faking it and not very well.
