I found this video on Youtube and bookmarked it for a couple weeks. It shows how desperate some people are in this economy.

It is probably going to gt worse. I've been saying some of yjose idiots supporting the GOP will have daughters and grand-daughters working in strip joints in order to afford college. In fact I think I saw a du posting a few weeks ago about a woman who paid her way through school by stripping.

College girls often work as strippers. The pay is much higher than waiting tables and waiting tables is usually more demeaning.

Depends on your customers' attitudes. I've been treated like a dog many times as a waitress, to the point where I was sorely tempted to oopsie some tea into someone's lap.

12. hm... i was in service with customers in many businesses. it is what it is. some are better

at dealing with customers than others. but i never found a customers so extreme, myself. and still, in providing customer service, it does not equate to demeaning.

In the end I found it was better to break your back in a warehouse for $2 less an hour and not deal with customers. As a bonus, on most of those jobs, even your boss doesn't come around much.

People tend to be very ugly to waitresses. They're usually taking out on them whatever their boss did to them that afternoon. Which is no excuse.

5. Well...I watched that piece. I was in a long term relationship with a woman who...

...was an abuse counselor and who had once been homeless and had to resort to survival sex to meet her basic needs. I'm not saying I don't have sympathy for this couple but, geeze, it's kind of hard to take their situation seriously in comparison. This couple is taking the option of pornography but the overwhelming reality is most people don't get to make those kinds of choices.

From the piece:

"We did it once togher that first night. Within like 30 minutes we'd made like 300 dollars. I was like I'm done with a 40 hour week, I'm done. We usually take 2-3 days off a week, still make $1,000. It's got us a way better life. It's worth it.

Some stories are probably too graphic for DU but this piece is bluebirds and free ice cream compared to the situation that most who are forced into sex for economic reasons endure. I don't foresee the mainstream media doing pieces on those situations anytime soon, though.

Watching the piece a second time, I'm not even sure what point it's trying to make. These people ain't desperate. They just found they could make more money dacin' on the pole. There's a big damned difference.

Lisa Ling's "Our America" series on OWN. This couple got married and got pregnant young, and neither had much of an education or marketable skills. Now that they are making decent money, neither has decided to invest in an education and neither are looking very far into the future. Or towards their daughter's future.

Seriously, they are not showing much regard for the feelings and expectations of their child. Pity they are doing this just for the Buck, nothing to be proud about.
