5. K&R! Yay! Was waiting for this! Thanks!
I thought that the entire show was excellent, but that the interview with John Edwards was excellent, picture perfect, in fact. I agree with Bill Maher that he is probably our best hope, gets it, can think on his feet, and has really been stepping up to the plate. And I wanted to make sure that my friend who is working for Edwards in NH caught this... Thanks...:hi:

13. Wow, it sure was! He didn't make a misstep, and was just great!
I've liked John Edwards since 2004, thought that his "Hope Is on the Way" speech was the best of the convention, but he has learned so much since then and, as I said, has really stepped up to the plate. His hour-long interview on MTP thoroughly convinced me that he absolutely gets it. And last night was more of the same. I could support him with enthusiasm and I love Elizabeth. My friend, who is working for him, met her and was absolutely impressed. She said Elizabeth was both very nice and lovely to her.:-)

12. Edwards seemed almost shy at moments.
He is for real, not a plastic version of a real person. He seems to have the real feelings that we all have. That is so refreshingly honest. So many of the candidates cover up the insecurity that is an inherent part of being a human being with loud laughing, bravado or, to the other extreme,an exaggeratedly relaxed manner. Edwards is just genuine. What he feels, what he is, you get. The more I see him, the more I like him. He is the person I want for president.

16. Been Trying To Stay Away From This Place Today... But Something
MADE me come and see IF it was even covered in any way!! I KNOW the reason he doesn't get the coverage he should and it's a REAL SHAME, but HOW for the love of decency can a country be so willing to continue to ignore what is happening. This IS NOT the first time Maher has made complimentary comments about Edwards either.

I paid close attention to the audience reaction and he got such great feed-back from them! And I also noticed that when Clinton's name was mentioned the audience response wasn't even close to his. I watched the show TWICE last night because I have a DISH just to make sure.

The polls taken here at DU almost always show him on top and YET... what do we hear day in and day out?? HILLARY CLINTON! Not going to go into a lot of detail, have a stomach virus today and just got up to check things out, but AM glad to see that his Maher visit got some attention!

Thanks to all of you who are still out there for him! For me, even though I do like some other candidates, and feel Obama's time is yet to come... Edwards has the heart AND SOUL needed to at least jump start America back to it's grass-roots!

And I WAS surprised that Tweety, while not actually beating his drum seemed to feel as many of us do. I WAS NOT impressed with Sheila Jackson Lee and am SO SICK of hearing about HOW MANY WOMEN want a woman PRESIDENT!! For me and my fellow females, this fact is SOOOOOOOO untrue! Sure it would be nice to have a woman, BUT NOT THIS ONE!!

Go ahead and hit me... I'm about to puke anyway and may not make it back today!

ABC... Go, Johnny, Go!

Edited on Sat Oct-20-07 05:28 PM by themartyred
or should be... he was great and honest. and I've said in one of the other 1000 threads here, I met him, I joked with him and he was listening and responded properly to my joke with one of his own - all this while being hounded by over 100 people for a photo, handshake or autograph - he was paying FULL attention to my words - I was very very impressed. He said with a smile and playful head shake and grin directly to my face (about my shock of how bizarre the whole situation of campaigning was and people going crazy for him), "it's a unique way to live a life".

I love that Bill backs him, as Bill may not share the exact same beliefs as John, but on the big issues that truly matter, he sees this is the person to run our country out of this mess B*sh and his evil empire have put us into.

29. I feel it!

We have so many great candidates (Biden, O, DK), but the one I want the least is LOADED & supposedly far ahead, I cringe at the thought of it shaking down that way, but with endorsements and major TV appearances like this one will help change all that.

Thanks for the great photo.

33. I've seen him in person twice this year
and got to shake his hand the second time. He is very real, warm, down-to-earth.

Most of what he said in this video was what I have heard from him before - but the one new thing he said here, that I was glad to hear, was his answer to Maher's ethanol worries. I hadn't heard him qualify his support of ethanol in that way before and it was a good answer.

Very good appearance.

35. He just lost all credibility re: Energy policy.
"No more nuclear power plants, no more coal-fired power plants."

That simply isn't practicle. There is no reason to take nuclear power off the table. We are facing an immense envirnomental crises that will require all options that can replace fossil fuels to be left on the table. Yes, we need to invest in wind, solar, etc. to the max, but that won't be enough to stop or even slow global warming.

Edwards is putting politics ahead of science and common sense. Extremely unimpressive.

politics" ahead of science and common sense", Edwards has not put "politics" ahead of anything , most especially people. Hillary is the one that deifies "politics". Edwards radiates the genuineness and concern for humanity that is the hallmark of his campaign. He is not enthralled to business and the corporate agenda. That is why the unions love him.We need John Edwards because we need a president who will represent the people of this nation and not the corporate interests that Hillary does.

Frankly, it's nothing new for Edwards. This was the perfect show for him to go on since he could throw out his carefully crafted red meat for the audience and they'd lap it up without a critical thought.

And yes, I do think it's worse than Hardball, believe it or not. I think that's mostly due to the inclusion of an audience that often reduces it to a pep rally rather than an actual debate or discussion.

57. you come across negatively
and you may very well be the only person on this site that says Hardball is better than Maher's program. I got tired of Chris talking over every guest, one sentence into their answer, with another question. That's just annoying. I'll watch Hardball if one of my fave 10 people are on it, otherwise it's blathering fools getting outshouted by Chris. I enjoy Maher's humor and his panel typically has big names that have something interesting to say. Hardball on the other hand has Ann Coulter on calling Gore a fag and Chris laughing about it and her cheering section pumping up her hate. I think that might have been the last show I watched of his live.

A far faster rate than anyone had ever predicted. Then, Edwards follows up by taking options to combat global warming off the table to patronize the far left who sees everything in black and white, including nuclear energy.

I want a leader who THINKS and LEADS not PANDERS!

49. there are those that think that nuclear is a guaranteed environmental disaster.
Obviously, you think the problems are solved, so I'd love to hear the solutions. Here's a new one: What do we use to cool the reactors when the rivers run dry from global warming? What do we do about insurance (Price-Anderson,) wastes from mining and refining as well as energy production, security, and ultimate decommissioning as in who pays for it?

Forgotten is the thermal pollution that nukes create which doesn't help the warming problem.

Hi calteacherguy, is that a word?

And any goal is possible if the brightest put their minds to it. If Shrubya can get into office, then our nation's best can come up with a better energy source, clean drinking water from ocean water that is inexpensive to filter, and a host of other great needs.

You can give all the thumbs down emoticons you'd like and call it extremely unimpressive, but I challenge you to find a candidate who's polling at 5% or better, who's got more interest in the issues that matter to hard working Americans.

53. John Edwards is a good man
and I wish him well. Remember that it is early still.
He might be a great general election candidate if he could ever get that far. He's been basically living in Iowa trying to win that caucus. I'm glad that Mr. Edwards said that his Iraq vote was a Mistake.
People seem to forget how easy it is for Mr. Obama to talk about his opposition to Iraq when he Never had to make that choice. Hillary won't apologize- has taken some incredible (deserved) heat about it yet has not relented. One must agree however that the Mainstream Media loves to take her down with one hand while declaring her the winner with the other.

I posted the entire Bill Maher October 19th show Here in good-old fashioned Youtube form.
