1. Bill Loeb was about the WORST rightwing crank to own a newspaper in the 20th Century.
And they'e having a "free speech" award in HIS name?

Cynicism triumphs again.

35. Yes he was, but minor point of correction. The award is named for Nackey Loeb.
his wife who took over the Union Leader after the old bastard died. Bill Loeb was a piece of ..err, work.
Even as a kid I knew that the man's viewpoints were vile.

that he be President.

That boy needs a checkup from the neck up, for sure.

or he has help from staff, these pearls must be preserved.

Ideas are a strong weapon.

and his ability to make such clear and compelling arguments. It's the passion in his commentaries that make them so exceptional.

30. Ah, useful word. I think I'll spell it "gnatcock", though, now that I know.
"Knatcock" must have been invented by the same folks who think "owned" starts with a "p".

6. Dead on excellent work from Keith
"What a dark place your world must be, Mr. Gingrich." Indeed, it's a scary cauldron of fear and terra, terra, terra meant to be exploited.

KO is so eloquent in his special commentaries and an absolute defender of American ideals and basic human rights.

Note how he ends with his idol E. R. Murrow's trademark "Good night and good luck." He's very aware of how important one brave, eloquent voice of integrity can be in turning the tide against the lying bullies.

It strikes a chill deep in the soul to realize the mayhem that would be caused if the Repubs had another two years of control to implement bush's agenda.

These rabid dogs never stop frothing at the mouth, do they?

It's like listening to the best music in the world, or tasting the best food. It's so rich and delicious it makes you crave his words so the truth can seep into your brain like bubbles of a fine champagne. I appreciate him taking on American Idol and Britney Spears as long as we keep getting these precious gems.

16. With every Gingrich quote I kept thinking 'Hitler'...
I'm hesitant to even use the comparison in regards to bush, but those quotes kept reminding me of Hitler over and over. Gingrich as pres is a scary idea. I would pack up and leave the country then.

this would be greatly appreciated and savored on DU in the morning! Isn't KO wonderful? His writing is Constitutional-esque in language. So nice to hear intelligent words and not being talked down to for a change. Wish * could learn to speak....especially when he's away from the country.

27. Thanks for lancing the pustules that pass for GOP leadership, Keith!
"It will lead us to learn," Gingrich continued, "how to close down every website that is dangerous, and it will lead us to a very severe approach to people who advocate the killing of Americans and advocate the use of nuclear and biological weapons."

Republicans have found that their ideas are so un-American, so pathetic, so repugnant, the only way they can gain power is through hysteria, and the only way they can keep it is through shutting down free speech in America.

No wonder the Republican Party is shrinking fast, and the faster they shrink the more shrill the remaining true-believers will become.

31. Newtonian Rights
The terrorists want to destroy America.

They do not have the power to accomplish their goal. Only we can do that to ourselves.

If Gingrich were to succeed in his quest to erode the right to freedom of speech in America, he would in effect be aiding and abetting the terrorists.

I would propose that Gingrich be arrested and held as an enemy combatant, except for the fact that I don't want to see anybody's rights be denied -- even his.

33. Gingrich is why we have not secured democracy from the neocons
They have been defeated for the moment, but they will continue to push the fear like a drug to the American people. They will not let up on their Contract ON America. Gingrich still holds the dream of killing the "American Dream"

We must not ever allow him the opportunity to get close to the Presidency again.
