This is an interesting clip on how the Vietnam War covered in 1969 ... the newscaster (who could teach O'Liely a thing or two on right-wing shilling) describes that after meeting the North Vietnamese officals the "Nixon Administration is counting its diplomatic silverware" and when he refers to U.S. positions with "us" and "we"
Some other noteworthy things in the piece:
Refers to a speech Nixon was to make that Nov. as saying:
1) Viet Cong was in a near state of collapse
2) North Vietnamese Army was in no better shape
3) Troop reduction will end the fighting in 2-3 years
News on the Chicago 8 trail and their role in it (one said that the Moratorium protests were a way to set into motion the "elimination of Richard Nixon from American politics")
Also mentioned was how the Moratorium protests could weaken South Vietnam (thus "our") position.
Nixon's plan to draft 19 year old via lottery was approved by some Senate committee.
