1. Joe was awesome, as per usual.
THAT was the true democratic response to the SOTU.

5. yeah why can't the Dem response be spirited?
For the last three years you couldn't tell whether the people were real or audio-animatronic. So overscripted, so artificial. So intimidated.

16. So aggravating
I'm sure Ms. Sebelius is a nice person, but I was just getting furious during the response. The wheedling, whining tone and the leaden delivery didn't inspire me at all.

21. I actually saw her in person in 2004
And she is a very nice, intelligent person. But there is something about the overmanaged process of giving a rebuttal that makes everybody look wooden.

22. Of course, its hard to take a speech that's been pored over by dozens of people
....... and make it seem spontaneous. I was just frustrated with the tone of the actual speech.

25. god bless her...

...not angry, just totally shocked by how bad it was... i much prefer Biden's review of the speech, if he had given it I believe Democrats could have really scored some points ! it hurts me so much to see people clapping for *, i wanted to see him taken down a notch or several. argh. underscores the need for a fighter as a candidate.

26. I thought she was good. Did you hear what
was magic to my ears when she said that the media was always more concerned about, who was clapping and who was standing, than what was being said. I liked her she was a woman Governor from a red state. She was excellent. I didn't watch the STOU speech by horse face.

13. He would be such an asset in the State department as well
I miss him in the race. He is more centrist than I am, even way more, but I totally respect and believe him...

I think foreigners like me would love for him to play a role in the dem administration.

4. I wish Joe would have given the Dem response to SOTU
I know the response has been given (recenty) to up and coming Dems. Sometimes that works, like Webb's last year. Often it doesn't, like this year. I'd like to see someone like Joe, who has...and I hate this word....the "gravitas" and knowledge to respond to a president.

The more I see of Joe, the more I like him. He added a lot to the presidential race. I was sorry to see him bow out.

7. If Hill and Obama had stayed out, Joe, the most qualified would
have been in the running. Hill and O should have waited. They may end up making us lose this and have another 8 years of the corporatist pigs who would then have time to install iron clad fascism.

8. I wrote so many complaint letters about his personal, ugly remarks
and so did many others that he gave a fake half way apology. But I noticed that stinking republican shill is starting to let his racist, sexist, colors show again.,

12. WTF IS A "PROTECTIVE OVERWATCH MISSION"?
Is that overwatch, over watch, over-watch???????? :wtf:

http://www.236.com/news/2008/01/28/the_state_of_the_union_as_a_to_3892.php

The State of the Euphemism is strong

While President Bush didn't lay out any new initiatives in his State of the Union speech last night, he did usher in a whole host of new, priceless catch phrases. It's time to say goodbye to the "soft bigotry of low expectations" and throw the doors wide to usher in "purveyors of false populism," "trade adjustment assistance," and the vaguely voyeuristic "protective over watch mission."

What do these new phrases mean, and how can you use them effectively? Check out our helpful guide.

Euphemism: Purveyors of false populism (n.)
Definition: 1. progressives; liberals; hippies; Democrats. 2. women who don't shave their armpits or minge.
Examples:
"I can't believe you went out with that skanky ass purveyor of false populism."

"Dude, the pipe's empty. Will your purveyor of false populism deliver this late at night?"

Euphemism: trade adjustment assistance (n.)
Definition: 1. exchange of money. 2. trading of goods and services in dire times.
Examples:
"Hey Jim, I'm sorry to that your fertilizer business went under. I hope you won't have to go on trade adjustment assistance."

"Give me your wallet and I'll give you some trade adjustment assistance by not shooting you with this gun."

Euphemism: protective over watch mission (n.)
Definition: 1. a state of being in which one gives the impression of being alert, even if one's motives are suspect. 2. war.
Examples:
"If those lousy Sharks don't stay off our turf, there's gonna be a protective over watch mission."

"Have another drink. If you pass out, nothing will happen, because I'm on a protective over watch mission."

It doesn't change the fact that it's still a pig and it stinks and it's full of shit.

Britain had a protective overwatch mission in India for about a couple of centuries.

30. Glad you found us!
You missed a lot of good stuff when Biden was still in the race.

I particularly liked his comments directed to Keith's remarks. I wish there had been more interaction between the two of them a few months ago. It would have given Biden some positive media exposure at time when he was virtually invisible to the media.
