4. I was actually onstage in Indiana.
We had spent the day with a rep from Capitol Records (we had 2 albums on that label) who was a huge Beatles fan. We spent the day listening to John's new record, and lots of Beatle music. At the end of our show that night, I was the last one off stage. Just before I made it off, the guys turned around and we went back out to do an encore. One of the guys said on mike "This is for the greatest rocker who ever lived" or something like that, and called out "Twist and Shout". I was surprised, since we hadn't done it in so long. The singer was messing up the words, and the song really wasn't going very well. I must have had a horrified look on my face because the bass player came over and said "I'll tell you later."
The guy from Capitol had told them as they came off stage, but no one had been able to tell me before we went back out.
I still have a copy of Double Fantasy in the plastic with the price tag that was bought on Dec. 6, 1980. I couldn't get myself to open it. I suppose it might be worth a few bucks.

9. I was in bed reading
Edited on Thu Dec-07-06 07:08 PM by OzarkDem
my sister called and told me. We had lost our mom the previous year in a sudden and brutal bout with cancer, then 6 months later lost a friend in a car accident, so I was already pretty numbed from grief. I just went back to sleep. I, too had already bought Double Fantasy and loved it. Next morning, driving into work they were playing his songs and I finally broke down and cried. Our company was going through a merger and things were very tense at work. I hit the road and went out of town on a business trip ASAP. Those were really dark days.

5. We will never see a group like the Beatles again.
I will always remember that night when I heard about John.
26 years have gone by and yet I feel like I was robbed of
something yesterday.

RIP John

"Across The Universe"

Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup,
They slither while they pass they slip away across the universe
Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind,
Possessing and caressing me
Jai guru de va om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes,
They call me on and on across the universe,
Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letter box they
Tumble blindly as they make their way
Across the universe
Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world

Sounds of laughter, shades of earth are ringing
Through my open ears inciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which shines around me like a
million suns and calls me on and on
Across the universe
Jai guru deva om
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world
Nothing's gonna change my world

15. Just bought myself the "Love" disk for an early X-mas present.
Man it's awesome. One can only imagine what other great music John Lennon would have brought the world had he not been gunned down on that terrible day. The world lost one of it's most beautiful lights. George martin has managed to do it once again with the Love album. It sounds amazing and quite modern.
