e heard the same old lies, the cheap applause lines, the idle boasting, and the empty rhetoric coming from Bush once again in his State of the Union Address. But this time it seemed more like a final curtain call of a washed up actor who nearly everyone now realizes never should have stepped foot on the stage.

After listening to Bush’s State of the Union Address, it is hard not to conclude that he is a spent force and his neoconservative project of domination at home and worldwide is, at long last, dead. Admittedly, he still has considerable power, is determined to keep US troops long term in Iraq, and will do the bidding of the wealthiest until he leaves office. But few are now listening.

Political events and popular opinion are passing him by. Millions of people desire to move the country in a new direction. We see evidence of this all about us, but nowhere more so than in the Democratic Presidential primaries, where old and new voters are expressing their deep desire for change. And not just any change, but change that puts people before war, profits, and racial, gender, and other forms of division.

What began as just another election year is turning into a potential turning point for the American people. A more peaceable and more just future for our country is increasingly within our grasp.

1. Senate dems are rushing to give Bush all he demands. Voting with all the republicans
They couldn't jump fast enough to deliver the Protect Bush and His Telecom Buddies Act. Overturning the courts decisions and legalizing corporate greed and law breaking. Amnesty for the wealthy no matter what they've done...some new direction senate dems are taking huh?

2. Guess we'll just have to elect more and better Dems.
We liberals are a scrappy bunch.
