1. What's funny is the end
when the cop is asking if the camera is on--you notice right away because the camera is suddenly pointing to the ground. Read in an article that the cop was suspended because of his actions.

4. Cop has anger issues
But why was the kid skateboarding there in the first place? Two wrongs.......I just about jumped out of my skin the other day when a skateboard came out of nowhere and almost hit me.

19. No offense, but that's BS
We allow bicycles and roller blades in many areas where skate boards are banned. I'd rather a kid spends his time out skateboarding, a healthy, physical activity than deal drugs, do drugs, play video games 24 hours a day, or watch the idiot box.

At the asshole cop: For Christ's sake, just because kids act and dress differently than we did when we were that age doesn't make them bad or disrespectful. I hope this dickhead loses his job; he has obvious anger management issues and it isn't long until he seriously hurts someone, probably someone younger and/or smaller than himself. The typical banty rooster, cocksure bully that hasn't matured mentally much past the 14 year olds he's assaulting.

26. I very strongly agree with the point you are making here
It is 100 times better for these kids to be outside with their friends and their skateboards than sitting in their rooms playing violent videogames or watching online porn.

Skateboarding has been around at least since the 1970s. You would think that we would have learned to accept it by now.

The place where the kids were hanging out looked like it was designed to be used for skateboarding!

And yet the authorities have decided that skateboarding is "not allowed" so the kids should just deal with it.

If you ask me - as long as the kids were keeping away from cars and taking care to avoid hitting pedestrians, then there is no legitimate reason in a free society to tell them they are not allowed to skateboard.

Maybe if that cop did more physical activity he would be healthier and happier? :eyes:

5. I really can't blame the cop,
if I had to squeeze into that glorified golf cart you see at the first of the video I'd be pissed at the world too. He's right, too, the lifeless corpses of 14 year old skateboarders with attitudes are scattered all around my neighborhood.

7. maybe we can't blame the dumbass cop for hating his life, his job and 14 year old kids.....
....but he assaulted that kid. if i were that 14 year old, i'd be licking my chops right now at the thought of how much money i'd be suing the baltimore police department for.

9. He came very close to threatening bodily harm.
Talking sternly to the kid, taking his skateboard, demanding that he be addressed as Officer rather than dude, all fine.

Most of the rest of the stuff was pretty damn far over the line.

18. He didn't come close, he made the actual threats
He threatened to smack the kid upside the head.

The threats about being killed were more indirect, but you could decipher the cop's insinuation.

8. I really didn't see the kid having an attitude
it how they all behave at that age. The meter maid (because he sure didn't look like a cop) was totally out of control.

14. Not this one
I think this is like a year old. It's only cropped up online again because he just got suspended after his bosses got wind of the video.

And if you watch it, it's defintely not "one of those" videos. His friends were telling him to STFU the whole time and this kid was being way aloof but not disrespectful at all.

25. Here's the full story
It fills me with hope to see these cases where a cameraphone and YouTube are used to bring situations to light that in the past would have been hushed up, because everyone would have believed the cop's version of events.

From ABC2News.com - February 13th

YouTube Video Gets Baltimore Cop Suspended

City officials are speaking out about a controversial YouTube video that shows a Baltimore Police Officer manhandling a teen. That officer has been suspended pending an internal investigation.

The confrontation at the Inner Harbor was caught on tape last summer. Officer Salvatore Rivieri, a 17 year veteran with the Baltimore Police Department, is shown yelling at a teenage skateboarder. On the video he says to the teen, "You hear me, I'm not your father. You give that attitude to your father. You give it to me, I'll smack you upside your head... Shut your mouth I'm talking."

The video then shows the officer approaching the teen, putting him in a headlock, and pushing him to the ground. The officer walks away with the teen's skateboard, but comes back accusing the teen of disrespecting him for calling him dude. "First of all you disrespected me, this badge, and my department. You understand, when I'm talking to you, you shut your mouth."

Officer Rivieri has been suspended with pay while police conduct an internal investigation. Both the police commissioner and Mayor have watched the video. Mayor Dixon says, "I’m really disturbed about the police officer's action and I think it could've been handled differently." Sterling Clifford, spokesman for the Baltimore Police Department says, "Obviously it raises red flags for us. There's a level of courtesy for us that we hope all officers will use that wasn't there."

Signs are posted around the Inner Harbor stating skateboarding is not allowed. But not everyone knows about the rule. We found some kids skateboarding at the pavilion.
