1. Anyone care to read about the Clinton's connections to Monsanto?
It will make you as sick as the effect of Monsanto...

2. Here's a re-assuring comment
"Monsanto should not have to vouchsafe the safety of biotech food. Our interest
is in selling as much of it as possible. Assuring its safety is the FDA's job."

3. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalyse: Famine, Pestilence, War, and Death.
Edited on Sat Feb-16-08 05:29 PM by 1monster
I can see, after watching just the first three parts of this program, how all four of these "Horsemen" could come from GM companies screwing with our food supply.

Congress needs to take action on reining in the companies that are genetically modifying these seeds, removing their ability to patent living things, and regulating just how these modifications are made.

I realize that this would be closing the stable door after the horse got away, but there are other horses still in their stalls that we need to keep there.

Did anyone else watching this get the feeling that maybe the companies who are making GM seeds might have contaminated some of these farmers' fields themselves in order to force them to destroy their seed? Or seeing that they did not come back with the findings of their investigations until long after the crop had been harvested, that there might not have been contamination at all? (Speculation only, of course. I have no way of knowing one way or the other. But, if I were a farmer, I'd try to form a consortium of farmers which could fund some investigations of their own.)

edit: made verb tenses match

5. Yes, they did do it on purpose. That's how malicious and ghoulish they are.
doesn't make a difference if Monsanto contaminated the fields using a crop duster or with the seeds blowing in from a nearby GM field. Monsanto knew full well the surrounding non-GM fields would eventually become contaminated with their foul GM seeds one way or another.

Sadly, the victims have no legal recourse because the judges and politicians have all been bought and paid for by Monsanto. ie., Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas was, or still is, a corporate lawyer for Monsanto. The FDA, EPA, USDA, the Justice Department, Congress, even the White House, all levels of government are staffed with hundreds of current or former employees, representatives and executives of Monsanto. The resulting corruption of the US government has been shocking, massive, and blatant beyond belief. This is truly a government of the corporations, by the corporations, and for the corporations.

Some more examples:

* Linda Fisher has been an Executive VP for Monsanto Inc. for 7 years. Prior to that, Fisher worked for the EPA under George Bush I. Prior to that, Fisher was with Monsanto again. Prior to that, Fisher was with the EPA under Reagan. Linda Fisher has been back and forth like that at least 3 times.

* Justice Clarence Thomas, Supreme Court Justice, was or still is, Monsanto's Lawyer for Regulatory Affairs.

* Micky Kantor, US Secretary of Commerce, is on Monsanto's Board of Directors.

* Lidia Watrud, EPA senior staff member, was a bio-researcher for Monsanto.

* Anne Veneman, Secretary of Agriculture, on the Board of Directors of Calgene, a Monsanto subsidiary

* Michael Friedman, Acting FDA Commissioner, was a Senior VP of GD Searle, a divison of Monsanto

* William Ruckelshaus, EPA Chief Administrator, is also on Monsanto's Board of Directors

* Donald Rumsfled, Secretary of Defense, Presdient of Searle, subsidiary of Monsanto

* John Ashcroft, recipeint of Monsanto's largest campaign contribution in the 2000 election.

4. not so new
The complete film came out about two years ago. I had my university purchase it and show it in some classes I teach during the nutrition component. It's a pretty powerful film and does raise awareness. I would recommend that people view it. The only part I am not crazy about is the warm and fuzzy ending that intimates the growing power of organic suppliers. Alas, the film pretty much nails it that if Monsanto or the government deems organics must go, they have the resources to contaminate all crops, all animals, all humans. It would be one helluva powerful way to destroy another country for that matter.

6. It's a question of relevance, not 'newness.'
The material the film presents is relevant because the crisis of GM agriculture hasn't gone away. The problem is still with us and only getting worse. As long as GM crops and GM livestock exists in the food supply, the public needs to be made aware of it, even though Monsanto would prefer to keep the public in the dark.

The best way to fight the Corporate Terrorists is to work towards passing legislation that will require all food products with GM ingredients to have labels on them which specifically identify their GM contents. Consumers have a right to know what they're buying and a right to make informed choices. The work that goes on in their shadowy labs and boardrooms needs to be exposed to the light of day. The revolving door between government and industry also needs to be shut down.
