Edited on Sun Feb-17-08 11:41 PM by Bok_Tukalo
Trying to get a narrative going. That is all.

Obama is inspirational so obviously, he is like Jim Jones. Not long before we hear he is Hitleresque in his oratory skills.

Damn. Are we supposed to be cynical? Even Republicans swooned at Reagan's "morning in America" and Bush his ownself, rigid as he was, inspired some with "a thousand points of light."

The Media is trying to make a positive, a political campaign whose support is not traditionally a lesser of two evils, into a negative. Don't fall for it.

20. How is chanting "Obama" any different from chanting "Hillary"?
I have seen reports of people chanting "HILLARY" at her campaign events.

I'm just sayin' :eyes:

35. That's not what they chant, though.
They repeat ALL those creepy phrases! It's like 'football cheers.' It's repetitive and MINDLESS. They're told what to say, and like obedient robots, they regurgitate it.

It may be generational, but this does not "inspire" me. It does the exact opposite.

9. How can he not be inspirational when he took
a few pages from Clintons playbook (hope and change), a few pages from Kennedy's (empty rhetoric), a few pages from Reagan (blind optimisms) and few pages from Karl Rove (twisting and twisting)and a few pages from his own pastor's sunday sermons. Fortunately there is no plagiarism charge in politics.

When you are on top, they are always out to get you. What is sad is that this seems like a hit piece to me, trying to dissuade voters to turn away from Obama in fear that they will be called cultists, or cult members. It may be true, that Obama has a movement on his hands, but this isn't about Obama as much as it's about this country and turning away from the Bush's and the Clintons. Like it or not Clintonistas, the Obamabots care about their country. It's sad how quickly you people turn on one another when your candidate is down.

This truly is a sad commentary in my opinion on the state of the people who take sides. Funny thing is, this sort of thing isn't only on your side, it's on ours too and that, is another sad truth.

This countries worst enemy is truly itself.

13. This is a great post.
It's tragic how the power to shape our elections, our very lives, is in the hands of the shallow, vacant cable news cycle. It would've been nice if CNN could've brought themselves to mention your exact point -- that Obama supporters are really excited not about Obama, but about the message of civic renewal that Obama has been spreading. But to TV news, politics is only about celebrity. Tragic is an understatement.

12. Very Sad
I used to like CNN. I'm an MSNBC person from now on. This is pathetic, its not even news. That was a partisan attack on BHO if ever there was one. What is so bad about feeling good about someone's message for a change? Its not a negative message, he isn't a hate-mongering rethug, he is trying to make a difference for a change. How much have they changed things since 2006? Little to nothing. What have we got to lose? From where I'm sitting, only more of the same.

14. Hi, angrypoet -- welcome to DU!
The only upside I see to this report, and others like it, is that I hear McCain already talking along similar lines -- that Obama sets himself up as some kind of saviour. And if things like this are talked about early on, if the stories have been written and televised, and if there's not much "there" there -- then the press usually moves on.

29. To much Positivism
The MSM that has been peddling hate and fear for BushCo. for years is so taken aback by an actual outpouring of hope and positive feeling they don't know what to make of it as it doesn't fit their chicken little mandate.

People in the 'home of the brave' are done with cowering in their basements with rolls of duct tape. This present administration has pushed their fear agenda as far as they can (unless they stage or allow another incident) and people are sick of it. They want someone - anyone - to tell them they can crawl out of the basement and hold their heads up again.
