some kind of sisterhood with all women, some commonality of experience we all share. And, to me, this celebrates that, as well as Hillary.

Diversity is truly more beautiful than that homogenized look we're getting more and more of in the MSM.

probably when Condi runs. And, remember, Elizabeth Dole was the first to break the ice. I'm just afraid that those angry white men won't allow any woman in yet.....or the Republicans allow a Democratic woman first.
But, great video. Lots of hard work and a great message for all women everywhere. Obama will be my choice for now. And, hopefully I'll be alive to vote for Chelsea someday.....

Look up Shirley Chisholm, the wonderful black woman candidate with the prim and proper clothes, the lisp, and the totally progressive agenda who ran for President first. There was even a PBS show about her.
Oh, how soon we all forget--especially women's history!

so the fact that she's a woman makes her an agent of change?
Pretty big leap considering that her record reflects consistent rightward shifts, as evidenced by the Clintons' alignment with the DLC.
Also, she can't beat McCain. Polls show disturbing trends in head to heads. And she is going to be just what McCain needs to reunited the fractured republican party behind him. Not to mention the fact that HRC can't play among independents, a must if we want a Democrat to win in November. I won't even go into how many Democrats (like myself) that Bill Clinton has alienated to the degree that John McCain would have to name James Dobson as his running mate to get us to cast a vote for HRC in November.
This sympathy voting nets us one thing: a de facto third Bush term.

First of all, no, I don't think she's an agent of change ONLY because she's a woman.....that's just a bonus.
Second of all, you stated that HRC won't play well with independants..well, I'm a lifelong republican that has finally seen the light and I'm behind Hillary 100%....I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Of course not.
As a matter of fact I don't think I have seen ANYTHING that has any flavor of "vote for me because I am black" out of the Obama campaign. Know why? Because the very SECOND he or his surrogates said something like that his campaign would be O-V-E-R. Not so with Hillary regarding her being a woman.
Spare me.
DWilliamsamh
P.S. Of COURSE if you DO have a link, or some reference more concrete than a straw man argument from the ether, I would be VERY interested in seeing it.

But... you seem to feel justified in accusing us of doing just that.
I'm gonna have to trust that you have enough sense to vote for who you think will make the best president. And, sorry to tell ya, you are gonna have to afford me the same luxury. Cuz, fact is... I will vote for who I damn well please, and for whatever reasons I see fit. And... there's nothing you can do about it.

28. That Clinton Quote You Requested |
|
"Having a woman in the White House is a change" -Hillary Clinton, NH Debates.
She has, in fact, beat the drum on this repeatedly. In addition, keep in mind that until the SC debacle for Clinton, African Americans were polling only a slight majority for Obama, and in some cases his share in polls was trailing hers among that group. Thus, I think it is fair to conclude that the black vote was not Obama's automatically. Bill Clinton did much to make clear that he felt the AA vote was his by right and he could do nothing to damage that.

I just haven't seen anything from anyone associated with Obama (or Obama himself)that essentially said "vote for Obama because he's black." I can't say the same about Ms. Clinton's Campaign and or associates.
All I asked was a simple question. No need to get nasty.... I didn't get nasty with you, so I don't think it is/was called for.

P.S. I notice you didn't bother to give a link to back up your charge. Maybe because there isn't one?

I don't have a link nor do I know how to find a link to a transcript from an Oprah show...however, I'm just telling you what I heard myself. He really did say it....there is no need to just take my word for it. I did take a look at the link you provided. What I've come to find is you can find a link to just about anything. http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/Read.aspx?GUID={599AF7CA-9AEF-4215-93DE-C5CEB1BF5457} http://www.debbieschlussel.com/archives/2006/12/barack_hussein.html

68. Too bad you links are not only unrelated to your assertion... |
|
the first actually contradicts you and th second is just scum bait slime ball repug lies. The first one though does a nice job (from the right) of outlining the fact that Obama is not a DLC Democrat (like a certain other Democratic candidate).
From your first link: "Obama the candidate is conservative only when addressing a national television audience. Ironically, the oddball Black Commentator magazine is partially correct. Obama is a stealth candidate -- a liberal stealth candidate."
That is the conclusion of the article that complains that Obama only pays lip service to some of the "conservative ideas" of self reliance etc...
How self reliance and personal responsibility is "conservative idea" I will never know since my card carrying democrat, social worker, mother taught me these ideas at her knee. I don't think those things are conservative ideas or liberal ideas.... just GOOD ideas.
From your second:
Well, I won't even quote that trash - because rather than even try to be a reasonable critic of Obama's from the right, it is just a page full of lies about Obama being a muslin sleeper. It's bad enough I had to have my eyes seared once again by that trash, I won't reproduce it here in case someone else reads this post. Shame on you.
And by the way I noticed you certainly contradicted yourself saying you don't know how to find links to prove what you say you "heard," (even after I point you to a reputable source that disputes "what you heard." In the next sentence then post two links. Interesting that.
I guess I know what kind of debate tactics I am dealing with: Straw man, then change the subject: typical Rovian slime tactics.

I haven't said anything personal about you so there's really no need to get all nasty, Dwilliams. You want Obama to be the next president. I want Hillary. There are opposing articles all over the internet and you can find anything to back up whatever you want. (Though I really don't know how to get a transcript from Oprah) I do fear that the longer this struggle goes on between HRC and BO that the sides will be so "set in stone" that the switch to support the end result Nominee will be tough.

The is how pathetic Hillary's campaign is. She's roamed around the past year reminding voters she isn't a woman but now, she wants people to vote for her because she's a woman. I once thought John Kerry ran the worst campaign I'd ever seen. No more. Hill has all the past losers beat.

|
I wish they would go to some other board where they can vent their revenge toward all the men they hate and or want to get even with. DU is not the place for attacks on men or women or race. It is also not the place to promote women haters or men haters or race hate. As far as I am concerned, the people who are doing this are doing so at the risk of destroying this board and are far worse than the freepers who have an agenda to screw the democrats. I hope there is no limit for my ignore list because every post from a woman who is venting on men is going to get added perm.

46. Umm, who is venting on men here? |
|
See my post down thread about why I think THIS PARTICULAR WOMAN can be a great President. It has less to do with her gender than how she has already shown me her skills. Were Barack Obama (or any other man running for Pres) able to show me his skills in the same way, he would have my complete support as well.
I kept a very open mind during the primaries regarding BO but he appears to be coming across as more talk than action and I don't believe we Americans need that in a President.
I am sure that very few of the HRC supporters here come here to "vent their revenge toward all the men they hate" as you say. Most of us come here for reasonable discussion about politics ----- if that doesn't work for you, by all means, add me to your bloody ignore list.

What if I am not a girl, am I allowed to support Hillary too? :eyes:
Look, I have no problem with women supporting Hillary Clinton.
I have no problem with African Americans supporting Barack Obama.
But if you want to win the Presidency, you have to offer something more.
You have to show that you can bring people together.

|
Afaik everyone expected her to take this home. Men and women were prepared to vote for her, I think. Underdog Obama came out of left field and totally ruined it with something relatively different from the last many campaigns. Presidential or nomination. And left her campaign clearly bewildered and flailing their rhetorical arms.
Thats a good story. A clear favourite that messes up and seems somewhat flustered by it, is bound to be pounded by the press. And delivering, what at least appear to be, quite a few desperate excuses for the situation, is not going to help.
But hey, I am from Europe. So I guess I don't count.

It's not just because she is a woman, either. It's because she is THIS woman...the one who is so damned knowledgable and mature. THIS woman can fix our reputation in the world. THIS woman has already shown me that she is going to FIGHT for universal health care. THIS one has shown me that she believes I, as a gay woman with children, am important too. THIS woman has consistently shown that she is color-blind - she has always supported the rights of minorities to be just as important as anyone else in not just our country but the WORLD.
I could go on and on about why she is so special but will stop here by saying, yes, THIS woman does it for me.

You know, for a long time - from about the age of 9 to 12 or 13...I wanted to be the first woman president!
those pics of everyday women, really make me think of my 6 yr old girl and how I wish she could have the opportunities I thought I had even in the 70's... ahhh, innocence
thanks for this touching montage...
