Now, I know that occasionally this happens, especially if the room is crowded and it is hot. But really, for this to have happened in the string it has at these rallies with it always being a woman in the front row with Obama then using it as an opportunity to get applause for throwing out a bottle of water... well, let's just say I find it remarkable. Does this happen at other rallies this frequently?

2. the remarkable thing is not that they faint, but...
that Obama always happens to be aware of the fainting person, and he feels the need to send a bottle of water as if he were the only in the stadium or place with a bottle of water.

Could be that the campaign is trying to get sympathy from female voters.

Note that this has happened to Clinton and other candidates, but not 4 times. Probably 1 time.

He sure seems to stop everything and point out that they've fainted. How vain. You know he's power tripping on that.

7. It's hard to believe. First of all, you have to find SEVERAL women who can convincingly faint.
Then, you have to wonder why Obama would even need the help, so to speak, since he's been doing so well against Clinton on his own.

People are overthinking this. If you're a short person, surrounded on all sides by other people so you can't move, under bright lights in a dry room, and under the watchful eye of a TV camera--it all adds up to virtual suffocation. Factor in the heartracing excitement of the moment, and BOOM! Down you go.

9. I'm not overthinking this.
And under those conditions you described I could then actually see more than one person fainting. It just seems so odd that they are always in the same place. I would think being near the front would actually be a better place than in the back really surrounded by people. Again, once or maybe twice, sure. But this just looks hokey to me.

22. Well, you got us there--it's hard to prove a negative.
It's possible that 20 people faint at each Obama event, and 18/20 have SAG cards, and the other 2 are just community theater people taking a job. But since we're not there at every single one, we couldn't know for sure, right?

42. Dogwhistles
If these are plants, they are NOT to get sympathy from female voters, but to humiliate women. They are dogwhistles to suggest to voters that women like Senator Clinton are weak and emotional. BO has a track record of using such sexist devices in this campaign.

8. I don't know
if you're aware of it or not, but, some people (usually women) have medical problems that cause them to faint under certain conditions.

My daughter does and it's not funny. It's dangerous and painful when it happens.

15. 6 out of
Hundreds of thousands. And the condition is not "extremely rare". Have you ever heard of people that faint when they go into a doctor or dentists office? It's a lack of blood to the brain brought on by certain thoughts which the person cannot, in many cases, control.

My daughters condition comes on when she's is in large crowds or tight quarters with lots of people. There are certain things she's learned to do at the onset...but, she's not always successful.

Again, this is not an extremely rare condition.

Just sayin.

the guy has been campaigning for what a year now? giving sometimes 2 and 3 speeches a day, people packing in by the thousands to see him. sometimes having to wait a few hours(he was almost 3 hours late speaking in baltimore last week). he has been drawing huge crowds like no other politician in recent history, and im sure to get a seat in the front, you have to get there really early. i personally dont think that theyre planted.

38. Using the same words..
..is hardly a surprise.

Should he mix it up with "Slap the, biatch. That will wake her up."?

There stuff you should do when people faint. Make som room and give them water, and if possible get them some medical attention.
And given that he has, and a lot of others in his position I'd say, seen this happen more than once and is holding a microphone, its hardly surprising that he makes sure it gets said and done.

If he just ignored it, he would be slammed for that too.

last time around, though I admit I may be remembering incorrectly.

This seems like a kind of silly thing to be slamming someone over. That's never stopped DU before, though.

28. At the Obama rally I attended
I saw two women faint. It was hot, crowded and many waited in lines in 20 degree weather starting at 4 in the morning for hours only to be herded into a stuffy packed house where they stood for up to 2 more hours waiting for the candidate to speak. This was only in my small section that I saw this happen, so I assume that it happened in parts of the arena.

The Obama volunteers were quick to get them medical treatment and they had ambulances standing by. At no time did Obama point out the fainters and offer a bottle of water - it would have been impossible for him to watch every one of the 14,000+ packed into the 11,000 seat arena. (unless he has some special powers that I haven't heard about)

These things happen often - I see them at concerts and ball games and political events. I don't think you can even suggest that Obama is performing some theatrical shenanigans to win votes, just as if the same thing happened at Hillary events should she have to suffer stupid insinuations that she staged the events.

33. It did get hot in that arena building. Strange, it was so damned cold outside, too.
And that's what caused those gals to faint - the heat in the building and the rapid change of temperature from coming in from outside. Plus, it was super crowded.

I didn't see anyone faint, but I heard about a few people fainting while they were there. One of the girls that I talked to later told me her friend fainted long before Obama even got onstage. She was disappointed because she had missed most of the speech while she was being attended to in the medvac area.

34. The energy was insane, especially for Idaho
I've been to Republican events here in the state, and I've never heard a roar like the one that greeted Cecil Andrus when he came out. To have him there with Barack Obama gave a lot of people a lot of hope, and that translated into a huge crowd with a lot of pent up feelings. The first 15 minutes of the speech were interrupted with cheering and ovations so often that I think Barack had a hard time getting into his normal groove.

That kind of energy combined with the cold->heat problems is a recipe for fainting issues.

40. People are absurd.
You might as well join Alex Jones and start chanting New World Order, New World Order. People at large events like this pass out all the time. I volunteered for a Kerry/Edwards rally 4 years ago at CMU and helped EMTs carry a woman who passed out before Kerry got on. She was in the standing section in front of the stage and just keeled over. At the Warped tour a few years back My Chemical Romance stopped their set twice, once because they noticed someone that passed out and another time because someone landed face first on the ground while crowd surfing. Were they trying to win an election? Were they trying to look sympathetic to sell more records? Or maybe it was that being that all the attention was focused on them they were in the best position to get the crowd to acknowledge and help these people instead of possibly getting trampled to death. Even at a seemingly much tamer event, like when Chuck Palahniuk (Author of Fight Club)visited U. of Pitt he made a few people light headed by reading a short story called "Guts" at the time. He was notorious for making people pass out just by reading the story.

You people are also ridiculous for trying to pick all of these episodes apart and call them scripted, i mean what else do you expect him to say, do you expect him to freak, like "Oh my god they fainted! Help! They're dying!" Look, part of my job is working in an outpatient blood lab so I get people that pass out every so often. Two things to keep in mind are that if you get excited when this happens you aren't helping the person; and really when someone passes out there isn't too much you can do besides having them sit or lay down and offer them a glass (or bottle) of cold water or juice. If you experience this often enough it becomes pretty routine and you do and say the same things almost every time not because its part of some script but because you know how to handle the situation appropriately.

So in summation since you can't find anything better to attack Obama on you've decided to criticize him for being a decent human being. Fucking Pathetic.
