This country has taken military spending to such ridiculous levels, even during times of peace, that any bounce in the economy that normally would stem from military spending is gone.

Eisenhower warned about unleashing the military-industrial complex. I blame Reagan for beginning the trend and it has continued uninterrupted since.

We should be directing dollars to infrastructure and other domestic needs.

2 out of 10 jobs today are directly related to defence. Nearly 50% indirectly, these are staggering numbers. We have created a monster by becoming a Warrior Nation. In order for us to redirect this kind of energy we'd have to not just educate a vast majority of the people into new jobs and a totally new mind-set, giving-up eating meat and all the jobs that entails, living smaller, no more SUV's, life would become more local, but we'd have to re-tool and the resources and time for this kind of endeavor simply aren't there.

We have created a monster that feeds off continued destruction. It will continue to do so until there is nothing is left to destroy then it will turn on itself until it also is destroyed.

This is what happened to many other extinct civilizations and the only difference between us and them is we now truly have the capability to end all life, animal, insect and plant on this planet. About the only thing left will be microbes and if they can evolve in the toxic waste-dump we leave behind more power to them. But as far as our species goes - we had our chance and we blow it. So basically all this posturing, blunder and bluster is all for naught. We are December's Children.
