1. I have been reading about Siegelman all night, and I really thank you
for posting the whole story and all the links. One of the posts really really got to me, and I am, very ashamed of my country right now. This was the thread http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x1817569 and from that thread....

(speaking of end of the Siegelman trial)

"When the verdict was read, they refused to let him remain free on bond during the appeal (and he certainly is not a flight risk). They did not even let him take a common period of 30 days to 'get your affairs in order'. He couldn't even go by the house to get a toothbrush... Siegelman was immediately hauled away from the courtroom bound in shackles.

He was taken to a federal facility in Atlanta and processed. He was put in a small cell and held there for 23 hours a day. He was not allowed any books, magazines, newspapers or any kind of reading material... I guess you just sit and stare at the wall all day and all night (or do push-ups)."

For God's sake. the guy, before his public life was a teacher, and a good one, but was convicted of appointing a campaign contributor to an UNPAID hospital advisory board. THAT'S A OFFENSE DESERVING OF SOLITARY? How can anyone defend that, including the media. I have read in other threads that local media will not even report of the matter. AND THERE IS NO WRITTEN TRANSCRIPT (Isn't that a crime in itself, where are you Newsweek?)....What is wrong with my country, my party, and just people (meaning you, who ever has the gall or nerve to call themselves conservative or Republican. This whole thing is so sick and unreal. What is this, Russia?

The post ended with "Again, that is just a small part of what has happened in this case, but it should give you an idea of how unbelievably out of control these people are."

I wish my beloved Dem leaders would understand en mass that this could happen to anyone of them, and by extension, could happen to any person who is proud enough, as I am, to call themselves Democrat
