Clinton Surrogate Compares Obama Ad to Nazi March
http://news.yahoo.com/s/thenation/20080201/cm_thenation/45278988_1
Fri Feb 1, 2:23 PM ET
The Nation -- On a media conference call organized by the Hillary Clinton campaign today, Clinton surrogate Len Nichols compared an Obama health care ad to Nazis.

----------
Accusing political opponents of Nazism is an outrageous smear. Raising the specter of a Nazi march in response to a health care mailer that evokes the insurance industry is so absurd, it would be hard to take the attack seriously, were it not launched from a high profile national campaign conference call in this crucial stretch of the presidential race. And political observers know, of course, that the Clinton Campaign regularly arranges opportunities for surrogates to launch these kind of smears, which are later followed up with apologies. (See: Bob Johnson, Bill Shaheen, Bob Kerrey, and Francine Torge, to name the most recent offenders.) For his part, Nichols did not immediately return a call requesting further comment.
-------------------------
Len Nichols, Director of New America's Health Policy Program, stated, "For nearly 17 years I have worked tirelessly to reform our nation's struggling health system. Today my passion overwhelmed me. I chose an analogy that was wholly inappropriate. I am deeply sorry for any offense that my unfortunate comments may have caused. I made unfortunate comments that do not accurately reflect my bipartisan conviction, political philosophy, or most importantly, my opinions about Senator Obama and his historic campaign for the United States presidency."

Clinton adviser steps down after drug use comments
Earlier Thursday, Clinton personally apologized to rival Obama for Shaheen's remarks.

Obama accepted her apology, according to David Axelrod, the top political strategist for the Obama campaign.

Edwards: No Conscience in Clinton Campaign
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/01/06/edwards-no-conscience-in-clinton-campaign/
By Julie Bosman
KEENE, N.H. – John Edwards angrily took on Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton at two news conferences in a row on Sunday, saying that her campaign “doesn’t seem to have a conscience.”

COMPTON, Calif. (AP) — Hillary Rodham Clinton and her campaign tried to mend ties to black voters Thursday when a key supporter apologized to her chief rival, Barack Obama, for comments that hinted at Obama's drug use as a teenager. The candidate herself, meanwhile, praised the Rev. Martin Luther King and promised to assist with the rebirth of this troubled, largely black city.

Bob Johnson, the founder of Black Entertainment Television, apologized
for comments he made at a Clinton campaign rally in South Carolina on Sunday that hinted at Obama's use of drugs as a teenager.

Third Clinton Volunteer Knew Of Smear E-Mail

A third volunteer for Hillary Clinton's campaign was aware of a propaganda e-mail alleging that Barack Obama is a Muslim who plans on "destroying the U.S. from the inside out."

"Let us all remain alert concerning Obama's expected presidential Candidacy," the email reads. "Please forward to everyone you know. The Muslims have said they Plan on destroying the U.S. from the inside out, what better way to start than at The highest level."

Two Clinton volunteers, Linda Olson and Judy Rose, have already been asked to resign from the campaign for their roles in forwarding the e-mail.
The AP reported yesterday that Olson, a volunteer coordinator in Iowa County, sent a version of the e-mail to 11 people, including Ben Young, a regional field director for Chris Dodd's campaign. Young passed it on to the AP.

Bill Clinton Asks for a Second Chance

By Liz Halloran
Posted February 11, 2008

The morning after his wife, Hillary, was routed in three state contests by Sen. Barack Obama in their dead-heat battle for the Democratic nomination, former President Bill Clinton made his case for her before a packed Sunday service at one of the largest black churches in Washington, D.C.
But first he offered an apology of sorts for racially tinged comments he made about Obama and his candidacy that have triggered a backlash in the black community and among many other Democrats.

Clinton invoked his "worship of a God of second chances" in pronouncing himself glad to be at the Temple of Praise, which claims nearly 15,000 members. His invocation of second chances echoed comments he made early last week at black churches in California, where he campaigned for his wife before that state's Super Tuesday primary, which she won.

Bill Clinton To Apologize At LA Black Churches
Once again, Bill Clinton is ready to repent.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/02/02/bill-clinton-to-apologize_n_84573.html
On Sunday the former president is scheduled to visit black churches in South Central Los Angeles, where he's expected to offer a mea culpa to those who "dearly loved him" when he was their president, Rep. Diane Watson (D-Calif.) says.

Watson, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus who has endorsed Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), tells us she'll usher the former president to more than half a dozen churches in her district where she says he needs to "renew his relationship" with congregants who were turned off by his racially tinged comments in the days leading up to and following the South Carolina primary. (Such as when Clinton compared Sen. Barack Obama's landslide victory to Jesse Jackson's wins in 1984 and 1988.)

7. holy crap!!
I read about it but I didn't see it. She's putting Baghdad Bob to shame. I can not believe these high-powered, well-connected consultants come up with this stuff, and she goes along with it. Surely they must know that Bush has trained us well in the art of recognizing horse shit when we hear it. I guess it's an 'if at first you don't succeed try and try again', even though the horse you are riding is dead.

9. What makes this especially awesome
is that this is put together and out on "the you tube" less than 24 hours after her "press release." Wonder if TDS and Colbert Report writers are doing volunteer work for the Obama campaign. They're the only ones I know of who can come up with great examples of hypocrisy in action at the drop of a hat.

Astonishing. :applause:

10. Shame on all of you too!!!!
...I came over to this party because I was looking for hope, and not the empty hope Obama talks about. He has a great speech that is empty and has little substance.

You know, I have been around for many years. No matter what your experience is in these blogs, if you support either of these candidates because you feel the democratic party should unite, then just go for it. I feel there are two stooges in there with republican ideals that are not representing your party as it should be represented.

I am pulling myself back. I am confused. I need insurance. I worked hard as an engineer for 30-years and have just about lost it all because of this Repuk economy and now we're possibly getting two candidates who are bought out by the Republican Party elements of large corporations.....your all brainwashed and Obama is one of the sleaziest I have seen. Hillary is not far behind, but at least her insurance plan is better.

So folks, if you want to lallygag along with Hillary or Obama so that you all can support empty rhetoric politics, go ahead. But now your party is an absolute mess. Maybe Gore can come in and save all of you...I just do not know.

For years I have been telling my family (a bunch of republicans) about this guy John Edwards, who can finally straighten out this country and for sure this State of Michigan which is in a Depression. My elderly father, who has been a stubborn Republican for years finally saw John Edwards dismantle both of those stooges in his last debate (I call it the Bickering Debate). They are now your stooges. My God, he thought he (Edwards) was the only one that said anything important. I couldn't believe it. Since my dad is the Patriarch he has convinced the whole family to start liking him. That was 6-weeks ago and you know what has happened since then.

Friends, many Republicans hopping over like I did have been betrayed too. This part of the United States has hundreds of thousand of professionals and lower level managers out of work because we've been bought out by the likes of George Bush, Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama and Big Money Corporations.

You know, you can say now lets get together and be one as we are supposed to, but sorry, in this case I won't, and probably many of us won't. I guess that is why Edwards people are still standing alone.

What's next...I do not know.....................

Edited on Mon Feb-25-08 06:21 AM by JTFrog
You posted "your party is a mess" "maybe Gore can come in and save all of you" as in someone other than yourself. I'm sure you didn't really expect anyone to pick up on that, but some of us recognize the signs right away. Should we argue about the meaning of "your" and "you"?

If I misunderstand and you mean the democratic party isn't your party anymore (and you don't support Obama and/or Clinton), well then don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

11. Pure desperation, she is behind and does not know how to stop it.
I like Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama equally. I admit I voted for Obama in the Primary.

This is not necessarily a character flaw for Clinton, it is a tactical move. Attacks directed toward Barak Obama convinces me Clinton knows it is almost over. Negative campaigning does sometimes work. She is trying to bait Obama into attacking her, if Obama does get angry he has fallen into the trap. I doubt it is personal or really hypocrisy. How I wish the Primary/Caucus season would end.

22. Negative campaigning always works. Obama has been attacking
Hillary everyday from the start. Hillary did not respond that's why she lost. But you attack people with a calm and reasoned voice like Obama does to her and like the swift boat ads and like that Louise ad. You don't attack people crassly. An angry person never wins elections.

16. I think the histrionics....
are getting a little ridiculous. Try not to take this very innocuous challenge to Obama's flyers so personally. People aren't even arguing the point anymore. Both have expressed support and reservations about NAFTA's provisions in the past. She's acting desperate and he's acting smug. It serves neither. She's made comments suggesting she might take away tax refunds and/or wages if people don't buy health insurance, but has also stated she won't decide that until it actually passes. They're both just doing what we'd expect them to do: they're campaigning.

But even though most of us here in South Texas voted for Hillary, it looks all but over for her. I like Hillary a lot and strongly support her. I have since I lived in NY and she ran a much better campaign up there. I believe she's been a very effective senator for NY. But she botched this campaign badly and Obama's done very well with his. When/if he gets the nomination, I'll proudly vote for him as the representative of my party. If Hillary pulls off the "comeback of all time" as Q-Ball put it, well, I'll do the same for her.

The overwhelming feeling I get from this primary season is that, for the first time in a long time, I'm really proud to be a democrat.
