1. Interesting that the guy who did this video was Wes Clark's
camera man for his 2004 campaign. Hmmm...

6. Yes there are plenty of ridiculous comments
But I've watched a fair amount of Obama youtube vids and speeches and for every one going after him there are several more praising him. A pleasant surprise.

4. He has an inspiring quality like the Big Dawg
I like to hear him speak - he definitely got that extra something about him.

5. I got an email from Durbin's camp about this.
It seems Durbin is backing this because the email asked me to sign the petition to draft Obama for 2008. I haven't yet. Just not ready to commit.

7. Thanks for mentioning Durbin - This pushes me strongly AWAY from Obama
I don't want another candidate shoved down my throat. Good God, I am sick of the D.C. insider power-plays.

:(

8. I take it that you did not get the email

so he is not being pushed down your throat. As for me, I like Durbin. He has been the person who has stood up the most on the Senate floor and spoke out against bush and his group. That might have been his job to do so, but he took the heat for doing so and stood strong. He also voted against the war when the other dems did not. If anything, I like Durbin more than anyone else in the Senate, including Obama whom I also like. Gee, I am from Illinois. ;-)

9. I am against the BIG DEMS getting into the primary fights on behalf of anyone...
Primaries are for CITIZENS to decide which candidate they want.

I didn't like Kerry and Obama getting behind Duckworth in the primary against Cegelis. I didn't like Gore and Kerry getting behind Bob Casey during the Dem primary.

I want the Dem power players to stay OUT of the primaries.

I like Durbin - a LOT! I like Obama and I don't think he is ready for the Presidency.

This isn't about WHO is doing the the pushing - it isn't about personalities - it is about democracy and the "inside game" that the Democratic Party has become. I don't want to "watch democracy" like someone watches a sports game -- rooting for some players and not others. I want to participate and have my participation respected.

BIG DEMS getting behind primary candidates now is not acceptable. If primary candidates want to step out on their own - fine.

10. Okay, got you
I see your point but don't get riled up much over this sort of thing anymore, due to my health. It doesn't make any difference what anyone says, I will make up my own mind. I'm just going to sit and watch this one and hope for the best.

I agree about Obama being ready for the presidency, but then I don't know who is.

Here is the web site for the petition. http://www.draftobama.org/petition

Check it out for yourself if you want to, but don't make any decision on what I said. Note the disclamer at the bottom of the page.

11. Correction on this
Edited on Sat Dec-16-06 05:49 PM by rebel with a cause
On going back and checking my emails, I could not find this one. (I am always deleting them) I then went to Durbin's site and there was nothing there on it, and then to the several sites with petitions to draft Obama. So here is what I think happened.

I am always emailing my senators and congressman about one thing or another, so I am on all of their mailing lists. Thinking about the email, I have come to the conclusion that it was informing me of a grass roots organization that was set up to draft Obama and informing me of a petition that I could sign. I don't know what it said about Durbin, but I now don't think he was behind it. I do think it said "Grassroots". I must have had a senior moment when I posted the above message.

13. Welcome to DU... rebel with a cause
:hi:

I have a senior moment at least once an hour - and I'm only 42! I reserve the right to be less than perfect and I allow the people around me that same right.

:D
