Just in case anyone here can help out. My family and I volunteered last weekend in Toledo and it felt great to be part of his amazing organization. We phone banked and canvassed in Toledo before heading over to Cleveland for his rally. Here's the email I just received, in case anyone can help out:
HELLO OUT OF STATE VOLS!!!!
Thank you so much for wanting to help our efforts in Ohio! For those of you who I have already reached out to and we have been in contact, please feel free to disregard this email - there has been a little overlap.
We know for many of you Toledo is closer, but due to the amazing amazing response, we actually have a pretty awesome presence in Toledo right now, but we really need help here in Cleveland. If you can still make it, please do! This is our chance to really make history.
For many of you this is your first time volunteering with a campaign - THANK YOU - but we also know this can be a little intimidating not knowing what you are getting yourself into. You will be canvassing (going to specific doors) in a neighborhood encouraging the person to vote and vote for Obama. This is the BEST way to ensure people vote and the only voter contact we will do.
Some of you may have made calls from your home, we will not be calling. If you are in the border of Ohio you will be on the doors because phone calls can be made from other states.
To put your mind at ease below is a "typical day in the life of an out of state volunteer"
9am - 9:30am ~ arrive at staging location (90% of the time, somewhere other than the local HQ and usually a part of the
neighborhood).
9:30am - 10:00am ~ training on what you will be doing (in this case it is knocking on doors) so you will learn what the
coding means, who you are talking to, what you will say, and where they vote.
10am - 10:15am ~ drive to neighborhood you will canvass.
11am - 2 or 3pm ~ canvass
3pm ~ head back to staging location, maybe stop to grab a quick bite to eat but get to the office soon.
3:30pm ~ debrief
4pm ~ you are done for the day or canvass again or do what the organizer needs.
This is rough and we know not everyone begins at 9am but this is generally the timeline.
