Question regarding Mr. Obama's health care plan |
I will be voting in the PA primary on 4/22, if we still have two candidates, and I'm still reading about the candidates. I'm probably going to vote for Mr. Obama because I think he has the better chance to defeat McCain. In reading both the Obama and Clinton websites about health care, I came across the following on Mrs. Clinton's site: "The plan ensures that job loss or family illness will never lead to loss of coverage or exorbitant costs." The closest I can find on Mr. Obama's site is that health insurance will be "portable from job to job." ... Nothing about job loss. Is this eventuality covered elsewhere, and if so please direct me to a link? Or, will people who lose their jobs not be covered?

1. The Health Insurance Exchange |
That part of the plan guarantees that every insurance company has to accept anyone who applies and creates a separate public plan. There will always be an insurance plan available to everybody, with subsidies to pay the premiums.

2. So, if someone is laid off... |
there will be "subsidies to pay the premiums". Do I understand that correctly? Partial subsidies? 100% subsidies? Where can I read more? Having gone through layoffs in the past, I know "Cobra" coverage for a husband & wife was approaching $1000 / month six years ago. That's why this is important to some of us. Thank you for replying sandnsea (like your moniker).
