I'm so pissed - if this Wright thing sinks Obama it's over for me. |
|
This is the stupidest load of crap I've ever seen. This is 10x worse than the rediculous swiftboating in 2004. That was just a lie, THIS is so much worse.
I swear to you, if Obama loses the nomination, I will not vote for Clinton, and if he loses the general because of his relationship with Rev. Wright, I will give up on the Democratic Party, the Republican Party and join the nuttiest "Let's tear the whole thing down and start over" party I can find.
I just got back from the gym where I caught the end of Hardball (which I like), and I swear to you Pat Buchannon made me more ill than I've ever been, and I've always thought he was a nut. I always wondered why the hell a pretty good show like Hardball would give this guy a voice is rediculous, but the shit he was spewing today was enough to make me honestly feel violent, and I'm a freaking pacifist!
And there was MSNBC and CNN still f*cking playing the same old 20 second clips of the same old sermons we've all seen 200,000,000 times.
You know, this whole thing was a real wake up call for me. This country is not what I thought it was. I've always thought the whole "If you don't like Obama, you're a racist" thing was stupid.
But yesterday a man freaking pours his soul out, and the MSM loves it, and many say stuff like "It was the most important speech on race relations since MLK", and today they're STILL doing the same old shit!
Man, I'm so pissed. Sorry to rant...

1. Why doesn't the UCC put out an ad to counter this? Or even Trinity? This isn't just attacking Obama |
|
It's attacking Christians and an entire Church.

2. I'm pissed, and scared, too. |
|
How well I remember the first time I saw the Swift-boaters on TV. I thought "well, that's stupid; everyone will see right through these guys."
And then yesterday, on the bus, a woman told me she couldn't vote for Obama because he's a Muslim.
Why can't people think for themselves? Rant away.

I understand what you mean. I have the same frustration. I really thought for some reason that they would be different today. I can't understand why the pundits that were fair and generous right after the speech have gone back to exactly what they saying before. I swear, I watch MSNBC on and off all day (I'm home because I'm disabled) and if I have to hear Pat Buchanan spew his BS racist hate one more time I am going to hurl. Right now, I have on Judge Judy instead of Chris Matthews the second edition. Sure don't want a repeat of the Pat (I've called him "Bad Pat" for years) segment I saw earlier. No matter what the MSM are trying to convince people I am going to fight for Barack until the last balloon drops at the convention though. We need this man to be our president. I don't give a fat rat's ass who is his pastor is.

4. there's a whole other world out there, though. |
|
There's a world that isn't aware of what happens on cable news. Lots of people in this country don't even get cable. The time to worry is when some group makes a political smear ad and it gets put on network TV. Fortunately, so far, the RNC has been a little strapped for cash. And Obama's outraised McCain ten-to-one. (at least).
I noticed that the print media were pretty much unanimous about Obama's speech--that it was excellent, history-making stuff. There's a whole group of people who don't care about that endless loop of Wright. I saw a pole that said 65% of respondents say it doesn't change their opinion of Obama.
But cable news will keep it up as long as it sells, or until the next bright shiny object comes into view. I wouldn't let it bother you too much.

I'll try not to let it bother me so much, and I really appreciate the post. I've been really down in the dumps since this afternoon.
But on the 65% thing, that's an absurdly low number. I can't really expect that it should chance more than 10% of people's views of him. I mean racist people are going to dislike Obama from the get go, and I accept that, no problem. Reasonable people, however, who blame this stuff on Obama are way off their rocker.
Plus are people really that sheltered that these comments by some random person they've never even heard of a month ago scare them so much. Is this guy the first person to ever say "God damn America?" To ever question the role AIDS plays in the Black community in a controversial way? Are they that sheltered from what goes on in some African American Churches? I mean, I'm a 30 something white guy who's been going to boring as hell Catholic Mass all my life, and Wright's sermons don't even phase me. I may think he's wrong, sure, but that he says that stuff and the way he says it, I actually think it's pretty cool.
And I'd really love for people to stop calling it "hate speech". I mean, come on - get a grip! Did the millions of protesters in the Vietnam era hate America? What about those of us who packed the streets leading up to the Invasion of Iraq? Hate??? It's because we LOVE America and want to see it do what is right, and be a beacon for greatness in the world. Letting them describe angry rhetoric as "hate speech" is unfortunate.
Sorry, ranting again.
