I got the "Obama is a Muslim" email today

It's really kind of funny--except that there are people who want to and will believe it. I think it's a mask for hidden racism, pure and simple.

If anyone wants to read it, PM and I'll send you a cut and paste.

This is exactly like the "Kerry is a traitor" emails that were going around four years ago. Lots of exclamation points, colored fonts, etc. And all backed up for added credibility by citing Snopes.com!

I spent some time debunking to the person who forwarded it to me, but if people want to or need to believe this crap, what can you do?

I guess he's really being considered the nominee now--LOL.

Are they going to believe he's a Muslim or a Christian who attends Trinity UCC in Chicago -- you know, where Rev. Wright used to preach?

I get that junk, too, ginny, and I keep telling myself that the people who send, or read, or believe that garbage wouldn't vote for Our Man Obama anyway. Of course, you can always forward the Snopes debunking article that explains how untrue this; they probably wouldn't read it.

Yesterday I was on the bus to attend classes at University of Dayton's Lifelong Learning Institute (think: old peoples' college) and the two gentlemen behind me were discussing Rev. Wright. I promised myself I'd bite my tongue and not react to any knee-jerk emotions. As it turned out, both men were Repubs who voted for Obama in the Ohio primary, and THEY (not me!) were debunking the Rev. Wright controversy. I smiled all afternoon.

And this morning on one of the local idiot radio shows they were previewing that Obama had links to ANOTHER questionable pastor!!!! ooh, aahhh. Didn't get to hear THAT brilliant piece, but this is really, really ridiculous.

I'm a proud member of the United Church of Christ and all this junk gets on my very last nerve.

I wonder if the next round of emails will say Obama is a godless liberal who will rip bibles out of the hands of believers?? Declare war on Christmas?? Make Santa go on a diet??

5. i think the Wright controversy pretty much made this a dead issue

that just may be the biggest thing the Wright thing may have done.

6. Update: there is hope after all!

After the person, who is a family member of mine, forwarded this email to a bunch of us, there was some blowback. She got a negative reaction from some of us, and not only the more liberal ones. One who is quite progressive was very offended by the slams against all Muslims and also against Atheists. But a very conservative one also wrote back, objecting to the hateful tone, and told her so!

But even before that, she said she had regretted sending it, her only reason being that she doesn't like any of the candidates. She sent out an apology to all of us and says she will never again forward these kinds of mass emailings, especially if they are political. She is not a hateful person, just acting like a lemming; when the email said to forward to everyone on your email list, she did!
