Is Obama's main problem here in DU with Dems or non-Dems? |
|
My gut feeling is that much of the critical comments directed at Obama and his administration is coming from members who have much more in common with political parties such as the Green Party then from Democrats.

4. I think many are right wingers |
|
Pretending to be coming from the left. They let things slip. I saw one today about not being able to choose a doctor. :wtf: What leftist would complain about that? Their simplistic sloganeering style fits. Resorting immediately to personal attacks fits.
They make the left look like two year olds. That's a right winger's dream. They claim we are like two year olds demanding that the government take care of us. That we are against every war because we'd rather give in and become Muslims or communists or whatever because we don't have the stomach to fight.

and not only wasn't he tombstoned but his post got hundreds of recs. That should tell you all you need to know about the direction that DU is going. There will be no place for Democrats here in a very short time.

What would he think Republicans would do that was anything but monstrous? We would be in Iran right now if McCain had won, I have no doubt. If you don't like war you should shoot yourself before voting Republican.

is left over from the primaries. Those who couldn't get over it for whatever reason are using this as an excuse to carry on their hate(and I'm not talking opposition, I'm talking ugly)..And, of course,it's against the rules to call them on it.. I have them on ignore now. They're having their day but it won't last.

When did DU become Kucinich Underground?? Even Hilary and Bill aren't getting any love here. All I see are "I'm through with the Democrats!".
Wasn't that against DU rules?

So true. They always think that Kucinich would have been better than Dean, Kerry, Obama-that he wouldn't have sold out or something. Personally, I think Kucinich would have lost worse than even Dukakis if he ever had gotten the nomination. America just isn't ready for a vegan who hangs around Shirley McClaine yet in the White House.
Also, it's easy to be uncompromising when you don't have to realistically think about making alliances and getting your legislation passed by people who are at least 2-3 steps closer to the middle than you, or persuading folks that you know what you are doing in a situation where you, somtimes literally, have their lives in your hands.

why they are allowed to run amok either. It's counter productive. It keeps people from learning anything, advancing any cause, or helping achieve any progressive goals.
DU has turned into a blow-up-the-car, burn-the-house-down, and kill-the-dog rage fest.

15. DU, these days, reminds me of those videos of leftist anarchists who travel... |
|
the world blowing up banks, and burning cars, and protesting the World Bank. They get lots of publicity, but that's about it. And so would be the presidency of a Prez "Kooch". He'd make a lot of noise, stomp his feet, and get absolutely nothing done. Dennis is an ideologue, which is fine when you're representing a single district out of 435, but governing an entire country calls for pragmatism.
Let's face it, it's doubtful that Dennis could even win statewide office, let alone the presidency. Let's see if his own state takes him seriously, before being thrust on the national stage.

express their opinions. Having said that, I DON'T think DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND should be allowing the unbelievable things that are being said. We have a Democratic President who is doing everything possible to turn this country around after the most horrific eight years of my political life and I'm sure many other people's lives (and I'm 52). I mean, WTF???????????? What would McCain/Palin or any other Republican be doing about now if THEY were in office. I wish I could say that nothing shocks me anymore but that's not true...I still get shocked.

19. It is shocking indeed. We're the same age. Can you believe it? 1957 rules! |
|
Perhaps it's the popularity of the blogs these days, but I don't remember Bill Clinton being savaged to this degree by his own party. I don't like to think bad thoughts, but I'm damned if I can figure out why this president is receiving such harsh treatment.
I, too, believe in free expression, but what's happening at DU is largely beyond the bounds of pragmatic decency. I mean there's a thread where the president's children are being attacked. Kids should be off limits.

|
They get eliminated one by one, but they seem to spawn into multi-headed trolls that you just can't kill fast enough. Some are republicans, some are surely insurance operatives who'd like to see reform of any kind killed. One thing I can tell you - we have a lot of stooges here who are supporting those who would slit their throats at a moments notice. It's pathetic seeing people with legitimate concerns being manipulated into the piranha frenzy we are now witnessing.

20. Now that is an interesting point |

also if you've been keeping up with some of the main bashers, they have admitted to not supporting him in the primaries. That's no biggie in itself.
The kicker is that some of them had such a strong negative image of Obama from jump street and feel vindicated about HRC. They conveniently forget that President Obama didn't write the damn thing and have not even sign it into law. Still it's all his fault because he is in the Whitehouse and their guy/gal isn't.

I heard from that group that nobody seems to mention. They would constantly say Democrats were going to lose. They were going to vote Republican. Democrats were throwing it all away. So in retaliation they are forming again. They don't have to unleash Republicans IMO even though some are Republicans. I haven't been here that long but it looks like some angry Democrats never left.

Sad, really.
There's nothing wrong with criticizing Obama if/when he does something that you think he should know better about, or that you think he should wake up about.
But what I'm seeing in GD and GDP is knee-jerk reactions to anything even remotely positive about Obama.

The ones who admit to being Greens are "shocked" about Afghanistan - makes no sense to be shocked about that. Does the Green Party not read the news?
Their threats to leave make me  without them we will lose the elections! Yeah, all 100 of their votes are essential to winning a national election.

25. I posted something similar in either GD or GDP. |

Someone asked if Obama knew how much this health care bill would cost him (in terms of votes), and that he must be living in a bubble.
I responded that I thought it was DUers who lived in a bubble, as most people aren't political geeks or political operatives like we who populate this site. Most people in the US don't look at things the way lots of people on DU do, and if anything, it is the DU community that lives in a bubble. The only thing is, some folks realize this is something of a bubble, and others think it was a true reflection of the majority of people (particularly Dems) in this country. It's not.
