A bit of fun: a Barack Obama mural in the East Village, NYC

For those of you who know the area, this is at 6th Street and Avenue D. It was spray-painted by a local artist named Chico, who has been painting what sometimes seems like every wall in the area, for over two decades. He began with graffiti and then started doing these murals.

Note the left hand side...:D

(I think this is an RCN cable company switching station.)

3. It was painted in 2008, sometime after the election....
so it's a year old, at least. Chico's murals are rarely defaced. He lived in the area for years and people know him or at least of him. A local who made good, in an interesting way. I'm sure the subject of the mural helps too!

5. I think I know what you're thinking and you're probably right.
Pieces that residents like are far less likely to be tagged, or hit by other artists.

Sometimes, artists go back for touch ups, too.

6. Oh, by the way, it's at Avenue C, not D, and 6th street.
Southwest corner.

In case anyone goes looking! :P

8. Oh, thanks for spotting that..
for some reason, I keep mislabeling this photo's location.

You didn't live here, did you?

I grew up on 10th, across from the park.

9. I lived at 283 E. Houston, south side, above a bodega, next to a monument place.
