4 AM!
My 90 year old dad wants me to wake him up for the Senate vote tomorrow. The vote will 4 AM our time.

He was a teenager when SS was passed, yet paid close attention to the whole process. His mother, and 3 older sisters were very political people.

He keenly followed events as Medicare passed, and has seen both SS and Medicare evolve for the good over the decades.

Now he's very excited that FINALLY a foundational Health Care bill is happening, and doesn't want to miss a thing.

2. That is so cool! I'm glad your dad hasn't lost his passion.
I wish he could talk to some of the knuckleheads on DU about how this will be a process, just like Social Security and Medicare. Neither of them happened overnight. It would be nice, of course, if a great healthcare bill came out of committee and got passed by the House and Senate, but I'm realistic enough to know it doesn't happen that way.

7. He's still very sharp,
and passionate about politics. We have a lot of interesting political discussions. He's a great old guy, but his body doesn't work very well anymore so he lives with me.

4. That's someone who realizes the historic nature of this bill
I wonder how many of the trolls will lie about their ravings here 20 years from now when they are enjoying the benefits brought about by this historic bill?

could crawl out of the trench warfare, and see this in historical perspective.

I wouldn't miss it for the world! This is history in the making.

I think I'll just stay up at this point. It's only a few more hours now. :)

14. YAHOO!
Just came up stairs to the PC. My dad and I watched and celebrated with coffee.

The pastries look wonderful.

GOOD MORNING!

15. You should post this in GD/P. I think that's wonderful of your
smart dad, who understands how important and historic this is.

Thanks for sharing! And give Dad a hug from us!

16. Thanks.
I keep running up and down the stairs to share bits of news with him that I grab off the net, so I'll no doubt be running downstairs again very soon. A hug will be delivered.

18. I got up early to watch too!
This is huge. It's momentus, incredible, and amazing.

I cannot imagine how Harry Reid must feel--good thing he was allowed to change his vote. :)
