Anyone else have RW family members/friends over tonight?
I got into an argument with a Fox News-watching friend of the family.

He said corporations have to make a profit which makes them better health care providers than the government. I told him that's exactly why private corporations shouldn't be providing health care, the profit motive means they need to deny as many people as possible to make a profit. He claimed that wasn't true because they were customers -- I told him they LOSE money when they cover you, else they wouldn't deny ANYONE now would they?!

Him: So you think free enterprise is bad?!
Me: For health care? Damn right it is!

When he said illegal immigrants would get health care (the horror!) I asked him if he would let them die in the streets and of course he wouldn't answer. All he said was that he doesn't want his tax money paying for other people, so I told him "Well I'm glad you got yours, so screw the rest of us then!"

Everyone else was yelling at him telling him he was wrong too.

5. I like to put on All In The Family
It's hilarious watching right-wingers agreeing with Archie Bunker, when Archie is really a parody of them like Colbert.

2. No, thank god.
My dad has a friend who started drinking the kool-aid, but he's afraid of what I'm going to say if he goes to far, so he behaves himself.

3. Oh, my son-in-law. He insists he listens to "both sides." When I said the
repub side was full of lies and misinformation (he likes hannity), he just smiled and shook his head. He absolutely would NOT believe many repubs want the bill to fail so Obama will fail. He would NOT believe there are repubs who have publicly stated they want health care reform to fail because they're worried people will like the bill and the dems will get the credit.

Sorry--didn't mean to get so wound up. I was frustrated.

4. Oh I completely agree, I get frustrated too
I mentioned going to a dermatologist and how expensive it was, and he said, "See, that's the government!" Um, what? I told him, "No, that's the free enterprise you so love. Didn't you say how great competition is and capitalism and all that?"

Oh - and did you know that there are madrassahs here in the US that are indoctrinating everyone to become terrorists?

12. There are indeed the equivalent of "madrassahs" indoctrinating people!
Rush Limbaugh show, Glenn Beck show, Fox News........ Much bigger operations than those no-names in the Middle East.

10. Yep. I try to keep away from talking about it.
I don't bring it up. RWers of course always do and in a tone indicating you couldn't possibly disagree with them!

I don't think they have to deny claims to make a profit. They invest and reinvest and even reinsure. I don't think we have to worry about that. There are claims they could validly deny due to lack of coverage, but that will lessen under the new law. If they didn't pay a claim they owed under the contract, they can be sued for breach of contract.
