I didn't like her at first. I especially disliked what I thought was a particularly whiny voice, which was a turn off for me.
But then I began reading what she wrote (right here at DU, of course), and I began to see how articulate she is, as well as how insightful and visiionary and how highly spiritual. Little by little I began to KNOW, not just believe, that she was performing an extremely important leadership function for this country and the world. IOW, that she was fulfilling her Life Purpose doing what she was doing, saying what she was saying, being who she was. Needless to say, my respect and admiration grew proportionately (tho I never did warm up to her voice, I'll admit).
I read reports from people who visited Camp Casey and they only confirmed my understanding of Cindy Sheehan as iconic heroine and spiritual leader, divinely appointed for this time and place.
And now she's at the point of transition to another stage of her life. I knew immediately, when I read the headline the other day, that her job -- her Life Contract in this matter -- is likely over for now. She has either completed her Contract or her Contract takes her elsewhere. Whatever ugly words here at DU (or anywhere) which served as the trigger were merely that: trigger. When someone needs a trigger at a time like that, any trigger will do. And from a cosmic point of view, someone will step up to the plate and make themselves unpopular or reviled by serving in the role of trigger.
I thank and honor Cindy for serving as the incredible Role Model and Peace activist she has for me and so many others, and for sharing her incredible insights and sensibilities with all of us. They certainly enriched my life greatly. I honor and bless her for her courage in grieving so publicly and gifting all of us with her pain -- and OUR pain which includes our collective shame. (And what are we DOING still allowing our men and women to continue to die and get maimed in Iraq?? We HAVE to stop this war!)
I wish Cindy Sheehan well on the next leg of her earthly sojourn. If she crosses our path further, we will be the richer for it. But if not, we have already been SO richly blessed by her presence in our lives, and the collective life of our nation, that it will have been more than enough. So I hope we can let her go with our thanks and well wishes, and leave any further criticism, blame, "shoulds" and even entreaties NOT to leave the spotlight or leadership position out of the equation. Those things, it seems to me, can only lessen an otherwise blessed experience for all of us.
Godspeed, Cindy!
