On shooting the messenger
I just heard about Cindy Sheehan giving up the fight tonight, on my way home.

I was surprised to hear that she named Democratic Underground as the "left-wing blog" that was the source of her pain, as I'm sure there were others just as guilty.

DU has been the source of comfort to me during our long national nightmare. It has been comforting to know there were others in America that felt the same way I did, and a relief to have a place to vent my frustration and anger at this administration. I've learned much, and thankfully have been lucky to have escaped being flamed.

I don't know what was said about Cindy that prompted her to end her efforts. I have been looking at some of the posts from today and have seen only supportive (for the most part) comments.

My question to you all at this point is this: How can anyone attack this woman? She is not a politician, a pundit, a godless communist, a cold-hearted corporate droid. She is a mother, in pain, who was brave enough to ask the question we all want answers to. She is not fair game because she stood up and stood out, asking for truth. Agree with her, or not, she does not deserve the caustic comments and name-calling she talked about in her letter.

Cindy, I know this has been hard. I can only imagine how unbearable your loss is. I know you have sacrificed much in your attempt to make someone accountable for this tragic mess we are in. The only situation I can think of that might be comparable to the treatment you have received is the treatment of the suffragettes, who were imprisoned, tortured, harassed and ridiculed but eventually prevailed. Thank god those women stood fast. Perhaps all the mothers need to learn from the suffragettes and stand fast with you, until this evil, useless war is ended.
