Hanging on the end of the rope
Edited on Wed May-30-07 03:37 AM by iwillalwayswonderwhy
The first election I was old enough to vote in was for Jimmy Carter. I have always voted with the Democratic party.

But dang, it's getting hard. I'm liberal, and I do not believe being a liberal is horrible and I'm not afraid to say I'm a liberal. I despise this neverending war. I think we should all have access to food, shelter, schooling and healthcare - no matter what the circumstances.

But I am weary and too scared of alternatives that might keep Republicans in power. I'm sad at how much this country has gone backwards. I'm embarrassed trying to explain or justify the direction my party is heading. What's wrong with us? Why ISN'T Kuchinich a viable candidate?

Democrats seem to be so afraid of making waves that we are all just treading water, and friends, I feel tired and about to sink.

Something, somehow, someway has to change. I'm starting to really feel like the Democratic Party is not what I thought it was and I do not know what to do.

I'm hanging on for dear life. But it's getting hard not to just let go.

So, I could use some bucking up, here.

1. where do you go if you let go... Nader. the reality is that there are things they can do and cant do
because of the Chaos the ReThugs create to cover their bullshit.. it may take a little longer than you want, but if you quit and do nothing you give it to the Bu$h Mafia family and we are all screwed.

say you have good really good job and you want to move the deadline up but cant get the necessary work done to meet it... so you quit and end up on skid row..and your sister ends up in a whore house, and you mother dies because she cant get healthcare..

i dont like it either... but the Fascists have a lot to lose and they aren't going to let go easily.. it is going to be a long war.. get some guts, cynicism is mental lazyness...

are you organizing demonstrations against the war in a city park near the central area of your city on sundays at 2pm... no..?? well maybe that is why it isn't working out for the party.. you are the party.. what are ..you.. actually doing. do you know where your party headquarters are... well if not maybe that is why things aren't working out for you.. YOU are not doing anything

do something, ask what you can do and quit spreading cynicism

3. Theres an old saying
All politics are local.

Stop watching the national freak show and get involved in making a change arround you.

The clowns in washington have been mucking it up for years but unless we get involved and work at making a change they will continue to do so. I dont know what you have or havent done localy but I was amazed at the difference you can make in your local democratic party. Go see the candidates tell them what you think tell them what they are dong wrong face to face. work towards lifting up the little guys that believe in the same things you do or better yet run yourself.

You can do it! You can make a change happen. Voting alone isnt enough though, if you only do that you only get to chose what you are given.

4. change minds, change votes
It has to be a sea change, a major shift. Think of climate change and Schiavo. We need that kind of sea change, in the red states. Until that happens, while we have senators who were elected with razor thing margins, we're going to be disappointed with Congress.

5. Hold onto your Hat! We are going to win big in 2008
George Bush has mortally wounded the republican party. With a Hillary / Obama win in 2008 for two terms of the Democrats in the Executive branch followed by two terms of Obama as president, we will witness the demise of the republican party as we know it.
We are going to have a Democratic President, Democratic Senate and a Democratic House.
Sixteen years of nominations to the Supreme Court will turn this country around like you have never seen before.
Hold onto your hat, the best is yet to come.
