Salad Semen Prank Sends Teen To AIDS Center

(Wheaton, Illinois) A judge has ordered a 17-year-old to pay a $750 fine and perform 120 hours of community service for contaminating salad dressing with semen and returning it to a suburban Chicago high school's cafeteria.

DuPage County Judge Terence Sheen also placed Marco Castro on two years probation and ordered him to write a letter of apology to Wheaton North High School officials. Castro must complete his community service work for an agency that works with AIDS patients.

Sheen called the prank "beyond stupid." "If you prove to me you're worthy of another chance, in two years, then I will give it to you," Sheen said.

Castro pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct in connection with the Dec. 6 incident. He admitted taking a bottle of ranch salad dressing from the school cafeteria to the bathroom and ejaculating into it, and then returning it to the cafeteria where juniors and seniors eat lunch.

Just another reason why education is so important on the subject of A.I.D.S.

This, of course, isn't the first time this has happened.

Besides, there are much more fun ways to get someone to ingest one's semen.

18. It's impossible.
HIV dies when it hits the air and would also be diluted in the salad dressing. The mucous membranes in our mouths are very strong, and researchers have found that enzymes in our saliva break-down HIV. On top of that, when the fluid reached the stomach, our stomach acids would destroy any infected fluids.

What's next? You can get HIV from a toilet seat? Mosquitoes? Sharing the same eating utensils?

30. Since I was referring to this situation, by the time he brought the bottle back to the cafeteria
If his semen had HIV present, it would have died by the time someone would have ingested the sample.

HIV dies when it hits the air, or there soon after. Within a few minutes, if you want me to clarify.

But like I've been saying, HIV could not have been transmitted in this situation.

55. I'm confused.
Are you saying that I'm ignorant and need to be educated on this issue?

Could you please clarify your post?

I would think that anyone who has a basic knowledge about HIV transmission would know that a kid who is HIV negative would never transmit HIV from jackin' off in salad dressing.

And even if he was HIV positive, and committed said act, he could not transmit HIV. This is Ryan White all over again.

Question: How long can the virus live outside the human body?
Answer: The Human Immunodeficiency Virus is fragile. Once the virus is outside the body in a dry form, it dies immediately. Even in a wet state, it does not live long when exposed to heat, detergents, or disinfectants. When stored in blood banks at 4°C, it can live for about 3 weeks (or longer), or till the white cell disintegrates, but in a frozen state it can survive for years.

Question: How is HIV not transmitted?
Answer: HIV cannot spread by casual contact such as touching, holding hands, body contact in crowded public places, shaking hands, working or playing together, sharing food, vessels and clothes, eating food cooked by an infected person, light kissing, mosquito and other insect bites, swimming pools, and toilets.

Even in a wet state, HIV will die very, very quickly unless all factors of temperature, humidity, and UV rays are PERFECT -- basically impossible outside of a lab.

I'm done with this. You need to remember that many people under 30 have had no real HIV/AIDS education or mythbusting, and all this will do is lead to the misplaced hysteria of the 80's. I had too many friends experience this shunning in the short time before their deaths from this disease because of stuff like this. I will reiterate: ignorance kills, ignorance breeds fear and intolerance.

One of the main presentations was on the origins of HIV. It was fascinating to find how geneticists and now able to track back, through observing gene mutations, and get a sense of when and where HIV came from. Although they haven't been able to exactly pinpoint the first transmission of HIV, they have a greater sense on how HIV was spread, and just how long we've been living in the presence of this virus.

While it's unlikely to transmit HIV (stomach acid would destroy it), it is very likely to transmit herpes and HPV, if the punk is infected with either.

This judge was right assessing this punishment. I sincerely hope the school starts to use individual packs of salad dressings and other condiments from now on. The quality is inferior, but at least single use packs can't be contaminated by disgusting little punks with grudges against the world.

Some kids need to be nailed into a barrel and fed through the bung until they turn 25.

9. You know, I'm not sure what purpose this thread serves, except as
fodder for juvenile comments.

Most of society is already frighteningly ignorant enough about the transmission probabilities of AIDS than to think they can potentially become infected this way.

Those who ingested any of that were far more likely to contract one of the more common STD's than HIV.

I think your comments about the importance of AIDS education infers otherwise, even though I'm sure you didn't intend it to come across that way.

The people he potentially jeopardized had a far greater risk of contracting gonorrhea and other transmissible pathogens than HIV.

That was my first reaction a few days ago when I read about his sentence. And while anytime spent volunteering or doing community service at an ASO is a great thing, to this day, 25 years after the first reported case of HIV to the CDC, there is still loads of misinformation about how HIV is transmitted. And I get the sense that the judge is just as misinformed.

You mean to tell me a 17 year old doesn't know he could have possibly made someone sick, with something -- as remote as it was??

I think manual labor in the hot sun doing some form of community service will make him think next time, far more than a class in an air conditioned building.

48. Just out of curiosity...how do you know?
One reads these stories about somebody putting semen into salad dressing...or a fast food cook spitting on a cop's hamburger patty...how exactly does the end-user determine what happened? It's not like the average person makes a detailed examination of their food to see if there are unexpected body fluids mixed into them. I can only assume that the perpetrator somehow fesses up to it.
