Two words that have lost their meaning in America: Sovereignty and Reason
Who rules America? Sovereignty is supposed to reside with We The People. But we haven't had any real control for a long time. People don't even think about sovereignty any longer. Its not their problem. Sovereignty is someone else's problem.

Reason was trumped by emotionalism a long time ago. We used to reason somewhat. But now the public sphere is filled with "Save the Children!" and Brittany Speare's latest wardrobe malfunction. We are being frightened and tittilated into submission. Without a vital dialog between disparate positions we fall into niches and lob emotionally laden assaults on alien positions.

Sovereignty grows weak and is easily taken over if the public does not keep its reason sharp. Without dialog and discourse over matters through a method that can lead to understanding for either side sovereignty whithers and becomes victim to any group or entity that has the social strength to take it.

There is still discourse in our society but it is not reasoned. As Jon Stewart pointed out about Crossfire it was just playing at discourse. In reality what should have been a dialog was just a puppet show with either side lobbing insults at each other. The agenda played a more important roll than listening to reason. So the public had the illusion that someone was thinking about things so they didn't have to.

Reason and Sovereignty are symbiotic in a social setting. Sovereignty cannot survive without reason. And reason can be subdued if the people do not have sovereignty.

I want my country back. I want a nation that honors the idea of reason.
